Summary
- Rise of the Tomb Raider was a timed exclusive in 2015 with a solid story and polished gameplay.
- Screamride offered a unique experience of testing rollercoasters and destroying things on Xbox.
- Ori and the Blind Forest surprised players as an exceptional indie with captivating visuals and deep storytelling.
At launch, the Xbox One didn’t have a backward compatibility system. Therefore, the first few years of the system’s life were important in building up a strong catalog of games. As 2015 was only two years after the Xbox One’s release, plenty of responsibility fell on that year in particular.

Some amazing games from Xbox’s less successful generation.
While you wouldn’t say 2015 was a banner year for the brand, especially when it came to exclusives, there were some solid titles released for the Xbox consoles. These were some of the most notable examples that will be turning ten in 2025.

M for Mature: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language
The Tomb Raider series has existed longer than the Xbox brand. In fact, the first few titles were often associated with PlayStation. Yet, in 2015, Rise of the Tomb Raider was released on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, almost a year before it was released for the PS4. Therefore, it was a timed exclusive for the green brand and a very good one at that.
Rise of the Tomb Raider ranks among the best games in the series due to its excellent story and solid gameplay. The said gameplay involves solving puzzles, climbing things, sneaking around, and shooting people. Each of these things feels very polished in Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Screamride
There aren’t many games like Screamride. You may see the rollercoaster on the cover or promotional material and think it’s a RollerCoaster Tycoon-like game. That is not the case, though. You aren’t running any sort of theme park. You are testing rollercoasters and destroying things.

Every PlayStation And Xbox Console Ranked By Storage Space
Which PlayStation and Xbox consoles have the most storage space?
The actual aim depends on the mode you’re playing. One is about solving puzzles to develop coasters, another is about staying alive while riding coasters, and the final one is about destroying as much as possible. It’s all a unique experience, and Xbox hasn’t had a game quite like it since.

E For Everyone due to Mild Fantasy Violence
One of 2015’s biggest surprise Xbox hits was Ori and the Blind Forest. Not only was it an indie game, but it was also the first-ever game released by Moon Studios. So, forget about launching a series, this game launched a studio.
The reason it was able to do that is because it’s an exceptional 2D platform-adventure title with an eye-catching visual style and a surprisingly deep story. Also, the general platforming and puzzle-solving are very enjoyable.

Halo 5: Guardians
The most high-profile Xbox exclusive of 2015 was Halo 5: Guardians, purely because it’s part of the series that is most synonymous with Xbox. This one is a bit different because Master Chief shares the protagonist role with a Spartan named Locke. Each protagonist has their own team of Spartans and is trying to deal with the returning Cortana, who has suddenly become a major threat.
It’s fair to say that the story isn’t beloved by all, nor is Locke as a character. However, the game is still a fundamentally sound first-person shooter with plenty of great guns and enjoyable shooting mechanics. It may not boast the best campaign in the Halo series, but it’s still an entertaining shooter.

Forza Motorsport 6
The Forza Horizon series already existed in 2015, but Microsoft was still committed to the Forza Motorsport series, as shown by the release of Forza Motorsport 6. It is one of the most critically acclaimed games in the series and was one of the best racing titles that year.
It is visually stunning, as both the cars and the tracks look very realistic. Adding to the realism are the authentic sounds and gorgeous weather effects. The game won’t go down as one of the most iconic racing games ever, but it was a very polished entry in a strong series.

Rare Replay
Rare Replay
Rare Replay isn’t just a single game; it’s a collection of games by developer Rare. Even for 2015, these weren’t new titles. Instead, they were classic titles from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s.

Not only are many of the games in the pack fun to play, but some were very influential and iconic when they were released. So, the collection lets you experience a bit of gaming history.

#IDARB
Anyone who has looked through the Xbox games catalog in alphabetical order in the past ten years will have heard of #IDARB because the ‘#’ puts it near the top of those lists. However, the title doesn’t really give away what the game is about. It’s an arcade-like sports title where two teams of pixilated characters attempt to get the ball in their opponent’s goal.
This makes for an enjoyable little game that has plenty of customization and doesn’t take itself too seriously. What’s most interesting about it, though, is how it came to be. The creator of the game tweeted out a picture of a little red box and asked the internet what he should do with it, which led to many suggestions and the eventual final product. This is why the title of the game stands for “It Draws a Red Box.”

Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
Gears of War has long been one of Xbox’s most consistent exclusive franchises. After all, it’s a series that hasn’t really had a bad entry. 2015’s instalment is actually a remake of the original title.
It includes the same well-written story of humanity taking on the Locust horde. But the cover-based third-person shooting feels a lot smoother, and the visuals are far more impressive. Plus, the campaign includes additional chapters that weren’t in the original Xbox 360 version. So, it really lives up to its title, as it’s clearly the ultimate version of the game.
