The Monkey (February 21, 2025)
Osgood Perkins wrote and directed The Monkey, the adaptation of Stephen King’s 1980 short story that will be released in February 2025. The story follows Bill and Hal (Theo James), twins who find a toy monkey that belonged to their father and might be more evil than they ever could have anticipated. Many of King’s short stories deserve adaptations, and this movie seems particularly compelling. For one thing, the premise works so well since evil dolls and other seemingly innocent childlike objects lend themselves particularly well to scary stories. For another, the cast includes talented actors such as Rohan Campbell, Elijah Wood, and Tatiana Maslany.
In an interview on the Bloody Disgusting podcast Boo Crew, Perkins shared what horror fans can expect from The Monkey. He said:
“It’s gonna feel more like Misery or Creepshow or Gremlins or American Werewolf. It couldn’t be LESS like Longlegs. To me, if you’re gonna make a movie about a toy monkey, you can be serious about it. But so much of King is funny and nostalgic feeling. So we tried to make a movie that felt a little bit more like something from the late ’80s – ’90s.”
Drop (April 11, 2025)
Christopher Landon’s upcoming horror movie Drop seems fascinating since it follows the main character Violet (Meghann Fahy) on a date that becomes one of the most terrifying nights of her life. When an intruder sends drops to her phone and says they will kill her babysitter and children if she doesn’t listen, she has to think and act fast.
Landon has written and directed several campy and entertaining slasher movies like Freaky and Happy Death Day and its sequel Happy Death Day 2U, and it’s always exciting to see what he does next. Although the premise of each of his movies is solid, Drop has a particularly cool one that hasn’t been done before.
Final Destination: Bloodlines (May 16th, 2025)
Final Destination: Bloodlines is finally coming out in spring 2025, and fans will get to see where this beloved horror franchise goes next. The past five movies have followed a similar formula: a main character has a freaky premonition that they and others are going to die, several other characters are involved in a brutal accident, and then Death chases anyone who survived.
There are no final details about Final Destination 6, but several sources have said that the story will follow a young woman named Stefani whose grandma survived a tower accident. Hopefully the movie will feature a unique character and storyline. But either way, fans are excited to check it out.
M3GAN 2.0 (June 27, 2025)
How does M3GAN stack up against the many other eerie horror movie dolls? The villain in the 2023 Blumhouse horror movie M3GAN seems even smarter and more dangerous than some of the most iconic in the genre, from Annabelle to Chucky. An early look at the sequel M3GAN 2.0 shows that M3GAN is even scarier and more stylish than in the original movie.
In an interview with Time Magazine, Allison Williams, who plays Gemma, the woman who creates the M3GAN doll, talked about how terrifying the villain was on set. Williams said:
“Whether it was the animatronic puppet or Amie Donald in her hellish mask, every version [of M3gan] was so scary that it was not hard to inject fear into my performance.”
Not every horror movie indeed lends itself to a sequel easily, but it’s possible to picture an entire M3GAN franchise. There are so many avenues for these movies to take, from other characters getting the creepy doll to Gemma’s story continuing.
The Black Phone 2 (October 17, 2025)
The Black Phone was released in 2021 and told a gripping and tragic story of kids living in an abusive home who are terrified of The Grabber (Ethan Hawke), a strange figure who has been abducting neighborhood children. Similar to Stephen King’s It movies, The Black Phone doesn’t shy away from showing how brutal some childhoods can be.
Blumhouse is known for its fun horror releases and, given the popularity of the original film, it’s no wonder that The Black Phone 2 is coming out in the fall of 2025. Fans are curious about what The Grabber will look like this time around. One thing is for sure, he will be just as dangerous as he was. It’s easy to imagine The Black Phone 2 being just as successful as the first movie.
