Over the past few years, Xbox has struggled to get a footing when it comes to consistent first-party releases, with most of the games that it revealed earlier in the generation still being in development. That’s changed quite a lot recently, as it looks like Microsoft has quite the lineup planned for 2025 and 2026.

With big releases like Fable, Doom: The Dark Ages, Avowed, South of Midnight, and more all aiming to launch next year, Xbox already has a rather impressive schedule ahead of it if all goes according to plan. That stacked roster was apparently also going to include another long-in-development first-party title, although it seems that it might slip to 2026 instead.
State Of Decay 3 Will Reportedly Launch In “Early” 2026
I am, of course, talking about Undead Labs’ State of Decay 3, which was revealed all the way back in 2020 and has only been seen a handful of times since. Although we did get a gameplay trailer for State of Decay 3 earlier this year, it sadly didn’t contain a release window, leaving many to wonder when it’ll finally release.
As pointed out by ResetEra user RandomlyRandom67, Windows Central executive editor Jez Corden recently spoke about Xbox’s plans for State of Decay 3 during the most recent episode of the XB2+1-2+2 podcast. While talking about Xbox’s slate for 2025, Corden noted that he’d heard that Xbox was originally planning on releasing State of Decay 3 in 2025, as it’s closer to being finished than it seems.
I did hear as well, that they were considering State of Decay 3 for 2025 as well. It’s closer to being finished than you would think, but I think they’re going to let that one slip to 2026. I would bet money that’s a 2026 game, like early 2026. – Jez Corden
While that was reportedly the original plan for State of Decay 3, it seems that Xbox is going to let it “slip” to 2026. Corden says he’d bet money that it’s an early 2026 game, which does make sense considering how stacked the lineup for 2025 already is and the fact that we’ve never been given a release window for State of Decay 3 in the first place.
