- Tom Holland who stars in Spider-Man 4 will also be shooting Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey
Spider-Man 4 is already in development, and the screenwriters are working on the script. However, the production might be delayed, according to an insider.
Holland signed a six-picture deal with Marvel — his appearances in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and his Spider-Man trilogy. Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third installment of Holland’s solo Spidey movies, was a huge success. It’s one of the highest-grossing films of all time after making $1.9 million at the box office worldwide. Sony and Marvel Studios agreed to extend their contract with Holland and do a fourth movie. Holland confirmed Spider-Man 4 when he appeared in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in October and said they would start filming in the summer of 2025. However, that might not happen because they are redoing the script.

The rumored Spider-Man 4 working title hints about a romance with another female lead and not with Zendaya’s MJ.
According to recent reports, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige gave the Spider-Man 4 script a thumbs-down. Due to his disapproval, writers are working on it again. Movie insider and scooper Daniel Richtman weighed in on the issue on his website, Patreon. According to him, the next Spider-Man movie “is still a long way from starting production” because “there isn’t a finalized shooting draft yet.” “With sky-high expectations following the success of No Way Home, Feige and Sony felt the pressure to step up their game and deliver something even better. I hear the writing team is hard at work reworking the plot to address these issues and improve the story,” he wrote.
Richtman also claimed that the production might be delayed because the issues in the script could affect the actors’ schedules. The filming schedule is set to begin in August 2025, and the team still has enough time to finish the script by then. However, Richtman believes a delay is possible since Holland is involved in another project. The Spider-Man lead also stars in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which will also be shot next year. Thus, there may be a conflict of schedules.
Everyone involved in Spider-Man 4 is aware that there are high expectations of the film due to the success of Spider-Man 3. Even Holland previously mentioned that they had “a legacy to protect,” which is probably why Feige is critical of the script. Previous reports also claimed that Feige and Tom Rothman, Chairperson of Sony Pictures Entertainment, couldn’t agree on the film’s plot. Feige wanted to bring the film to being street-level and focus more on Spider-Man‘s adventures. However, Rothman allegedly wanted to capitalize on the success of the third film, which brings three Spider-Mans together (Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield), and highlight the multiverse element. Despite the rumored clash, both parties have reportedly agreed to give the upcoming movie both elements.
Nothing much is known about Spider-Man 4, especially since the script is undergoing a major overhaul. However, previous reports claimed that its working title was Blue Oasis, which many believed was tied to one of its tragic characters — Gwen Stacy. Gwen was previously portrayed by Emma Stone in Garfield’s Spider-Man movies, but the character faced her demise when Green Goblin threw her off the bridge despite Spider-Man’s efforts to save her. Marvel and Sony could re-introduce the character with a new character or bring back Stone since they had already brought back Garfield in Spider-Man 3. Fans still need to take this with a grain of salt, though, especially since the official title hasn’t been announced yet, and the script is still in the works.
Spider-Man 4 will hit theaters on July 24, 2026.
