Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s new holiday rewards come with a major catch for the included “Mythical Island” packs, with players not receiving Pack Points when opening the gifts. The launch of the mobile version of the massively popular trading card game saw huge excitement among the Pokemon community, with fans flocking to the game in droves. The digital TCG would quickly see staggering sales totals, leading Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s release to become the third-biggest mobile launch in gaming history. Now, a recent update has given fans even more reason to dive into the mobile card game.

While Pokemon TCG Pocket debuted with only the “Genetic Apex” pack available, December has seen the first significant expansion of the game’s cardpool. Pokemon TCG Pocket officially launched its second set on December 17, debuting “Mythical Island” with a focus on Mythical Pokemon like Mew, Celebi, and Marshadow. The set also added new Trainer cards based on iconic characters from Pokemon‘s early days, including Leaf and Blue among others. However, fans are quickly learning there’s a catch with some special Mythical Island packs given through the holiday campaign.

A helpful post shared to the Pokemon TCG Pocket subreddit by Reddit user jayvenomva is warning fans about the packs included with the game’s “Holiday Event Missions.” The post reveals that, while the holiday event grants players free packs of “Mythical Island,” the free packs will not contribute any Pack Points towards the set. The packs will reportedly not count towards any themed collection or daily missions that require players to open packs, serving only as a holiday bonus for TCG Pocket players. The Themed collection missions also now specify that the missions require fans to use pack stamina to open packs.

Pokemon TCG Holiday Packs Do Not Grant Pack Points

While the news about the free Mythical Island packs is likely disappointing for some fans, many in the replies had already expected a similar outcome. One fan claimed to have suspected the change coming due to the alteration to the themed collection missions, with TCG Pocket addressing any issues that could arise from free packs. Many also criticized the change, with TCG Pocket already requiring exorbitant Pack Point costs to acquire powerful cards from the game’s sets.

The Pokemon Company and Creatures Inc. have already confirmed that trading will be coming to the game early next year, with fans able to swap their prized digital cards with friends. Pokemon TCG Pocket also recently launched a new “Mass Outbreak” event, with players able to pick up exclusive cards of popular Electric-type Pokemon like Zapdos, Raichu, and Electabuzz. Between the newest expansion set and frequent new promo cards, the future continues to look bright for Pokemon TCG Pocket.
