Some Pokemon GO fans have recently encountered an unusual glitch that spawns multiple pocket monsters on the catch screen. In doing so, the bug prevents Pokemon GO players from catching either creature.
No software is problem-free, and that goes double for something as convoluted as an eight-year-old live-service project in the vein of Pokemon GO. Whenever Niantic’s hit mobile game gets another update, it tends to introduce new issues, which fans then promptly discover.

Pokemon GO Update Makes Highly Requested Change
Niantic releases a new update for Pokemon GO which makes a highly requested change, but many in the community are surprised by it.
In yet another apparent testament to this trend, Reddit user Pleasant_Ad1655 has found themselves befuddled after encountering a Voltorb on a Pokemon GO catch screen that was supposed to be dedicated to Paras. The ball-shaped mon spawned on top of Paras, obscuring the crab creature almost in its entirety. Although the game mistakenly loaded a Voltorb model, it did not otherwise acknowledge its presence, with the catch screen only showing Paras’s Combat Power. Nevertheless, Voltorb seemingly made it impossible for Paras to be captured, as the crab mon simply refused to stay in the Poke Ball after being hit. Even if that weren’t the case, Voltorb’s presence still complicated the task of landing a perfect throw on a smaller target.
Multiple Pokemon GO Players Are Reporting Seeing Two Mons on Catch Screens
Pleasant_Ad1655’s screenshots testifying to this bizarre Pokemon GO bug emerged on the front page of the game’s largest subreddit in late December 2024. Chiming in on the ensuing discussion, several other players have reported encountering something similar as of late. One of them is Reddit user MikePlayingWithPower, who shared a screenshot of a Murkrow clipping through a Pikachu on the catch screen. Likewise, user Individual_Slide7996 has recently found a Spearow obscured by an Alolan Sandshrew in a similar fashion.
There’s an Easy Fix for Pokemon GO’s New Catch Screen Bug
While the recently materialized issue complicates the process of becoming the very best like no one ever was, it doesn’t make it completely impossible to catch new mons in Pokemon GO, at least compared to some similar problems that emerged in the past; Pleasant_Ad1655 reports that backing out of the bugged catch screen and then immediately returning to it by tapping Parasect on the overworld map eliminated the problem.
Seeing how the game’s latest update predates the first accounts of this unusual bug by about a day, it’s possible that the problem was only introduced as part of this patch, which rolled out on December 26. Niantic hasn’t yet acknowledged this issue in any capacity, making it unclear when exactly Pokemon GO players can expect to see the catch screen double-mon glitch fixed.
