A Pokemon fan received a nostalgic gift from their former boss after they gave them an original copy of Pokemon Gold for the Game Boy Color as a Christmas present following a conversation about the series. The original cartridge appears to be in good condition, and the fan even confirmed that it works as intended, giving them a chance to play through the classic Pokemon title in its original form.

The second generation of Pokemon introduced a lot of new things to the ongoing series of monster-catching RPGs,including a brand-new region and a variety of new creatures for players to catch and battle. Alongside these new additions, old characters make a return as well, as the entire Kanto region from Pokemon Red and Blue is also available for players to explore, complete with all the original gym leaders from the previous games.

A Reddit user recently received a copy of the second-generation game Pokemon Gold from their old employer as a Christmas gift, taking to the official Pokemon subreddit to share an image of the game, which appears to be in good condition. According to them, the game not only works and plays on original hardware, it even lets them save the game, showing that the internal battery is still intact as well.

According to the user, their boss attained the copy at a local retro video game store that repairs and refurbished old games traded in by customers, so the game was already in working condition when they acquired it. This means that, as long as they have access to a Game Boy Color, they can fully play through the game and explore the Johto region in Pokemon Gold as it was originally intended.

While Pokemon Gold, Silver, and the refined third version Pokemon Crystal, are not the only way to experience the Johto region, seeing as it was also remade on the Nintendo DS, it is common for fans to seek out original cartridges to play them. Nostalgia is a common element in a lot of fan creations in general as the franchise approaches its 30-year anniversary in the near future.
