How To Build A Cast On Minion Death Stormweaver Sorceress In PoE 2

The Sorceress is one of the strongest classes in Path of Exile 2 where you control the elements and overwhelm enemies with a barrage of spells. You have the option to use either Fire, Cold, or Lightning and you can mix and match them depending on your style.

One of the most powerful Sorceress builds involves the spell Cast on Minion Death. While most trigger spells have been nerfed, this one still works pretty well, and you can use it in the highest-tier maps effectively no matter the enemies you face.

Path of Exile 2 is currently in Early Access. As a result, the details below may change over the course of development.

Cast on Minion Death Stormweaver Overview

Sorceress Spell showcase Path of Exile 2.

The Cast on Minion Death is a Witch trigger spell, and you’ll need a level eight Uncut Spirit Gem to claim one. The way this build works is when your minions die, you will summon the Comet spell instantly and rain down destruction on enemies. The key philosophy is similar to Cast on Freeze, but it involves killing minions to trigger Comet.

However, it’s important to mention that this isn’t a build you can get early in the game as it relies on one specific item called the Fireflower Solar Amulet. Without this item, the build won’t work, and its a Level 52 gear piece that doesn’t drop until you reach at least Act II of Cruel Mode.

If you want, you can buy it from the Path of Exile 2 trading page for one Divine Orb, though that isn’t something you’ll get until you reach the absolute end-game and start clearing maps.

However, it’s worth going for this build as it’s very powerful, and you can lay the groundwork for it with the Fireball and Frost Wall Sorceress in combination with Cast on Freeze.

Once you get access to the Fireflower Solar Amulet, engrave a couple of Cast on Minion Death gems and attach the necessary support Gems to get the build ready.

Act 1

Act 1 map display in Path of Exile 2.

Act 1 is all about using a few placeholder spells, as you won’t have access to much yet. However, you can start by unlocking Flame Wall
and Frost Bomb
. These will be the primary spells that will cover most of the early game for you.

If possible, get access to a Gelid Staff
as that will help you freeze enemies pretty fast.

You can also unlock Spark
and get the Fortress
spell using an Uncut Support Gem, as it can synergize with the Spark and deal good damage. Also, defeat the King of the Mists boss and get access to Summon Raging Spirits
.

Do not level up Summon Raging Spirits, as the lower its level is, the better for this build.

  • Flame Wall: Fortress
  • Spark: Arcane Tempo
  • Frost Bomb:
    Magnified Effect

Act 2

Once you reach Act 2, some of the key elements of your build will start appearing. The first step for you to get Hypothermia
. This will inflict a Cold Curse on enemies, which in turn will increase the damage from various Cold spells. You can attach, Heightened Curse
and Persistence
on Hypothermia using a level one Uncut Support Gem.

Spend some time leveling up until you reach level 30 and use Uncut Skill Gem Level nine to unlock Fireball
and Frost Wall
. If possible, attach Deep Freeze
to Frost Wall and use Scattershot
and Unleash
on Fireball. You can drop Sparks and Flame Wall at this point, as you won’t need them for the time being.

  • Fireball: Unleash + Scattershot
  • Frost Wall: Deep Freeze
  • Frost Bomb: Magnified Effect
  • Hypothermia: Heightened Curse + Persistence

Act 3 And Cruel Mode

Act 3 map display in Path of Exile 2.

At this point, you’ll need to finalize your build that will help you go through Act 3 and then repeat it in Cruel Mode as quickly as possible. The first step is to unlock Cast on Freeze
and Comet
. Make sure you engrave at least three Cast on Freeze and also unlock three pieces of Comet.

Ideally, you cannot engrave a Gem such as Cast on Freeze or Comet more than once. In order to engrave multiple of these, go to Options > Game and then uncheck the “Gemcutting Restrictions” and “Equipping Restrictions” boxes. This will allow you to engrave multiple Gems of the same type and equip them to your builds.

You’ll also start getting Uncut Support Gem 2 from Act 3 onwards – access to Considered Casting
, Impetus
, Spell Echo
, and Spell Cascade
. All of these will be attached to Cast on Freeze. Also, once you reach level 41, go to the Path of Exile Trade shop and use one Exalted Orb
to purchase the unique Staff Font of Power Omen Sceptre.

Finally, use a Level 13 Uncut Skill Gem to unlock Eye of Winter
and attach Cold Penetration
, Deceleration
, and Cold Exposure
to it. If you’re unsure how to unlock more Gem slots for your skills, use a Lesser Jeweller’s Orb
for that. For the time being, a third slot is enough.

Mapping

Once you complete Act 3 on Cruel Mode, its time to get into mapping. You will continue to use the build mentioned above, but this time, you’ll farm until you either get the Fireflower Solar Amulet or a Divine Orb
. If the first one happens, it’s well and good, or simply use a Divine Orb to buy one from the trade shop.

The next step is to unlock Cast on Minion Death
using Uncut Spirit Gems. You’ll also need access to Grim Feast
which can be unlocked using an Uncut Spirit Gem from the Witch section. Replace all Cast on Freeze with Cast on Minion Death, keeping the support gems intact.

If you don’t have enough Spirit, you can drop the third Cast on Freeze, but you must have Grim Feast no matter the condition. You can drop Frost Bomb, Frost Wall, Fireball, and Eye of Winter. Instead, slot in Flame Wall and attach to it Arcane Tempo, Fortresss, and Mobility.

Make sure you also attach Summon Raging Spirits and use the Infernal Legion Support Gem along with it.

  • Cast on Minion Death: Comet + Spell Echo + Energy Retention
  • Grim Feast
  • Cast on Minion Death: Comet + Spell Cascade + Considered Casting
  • Cast on Minion Death: Comet + Impetus + Inspiration
  • Flame Wall: Arcane Tempo +
    Fortress

    +
    Mobility

  • Raging Spirits:
    Infernal Legion

    +
    Minion Instability

  • Hypothermia: Heightened Curse + Expanse + Magnified Effect

Gear Requirement

The first piece of Gear you must have is the Fireflower Solar Amulet. No matter what happens, you cannot replace this piece of Unique item, and you’ll have to either farm it or buy it from the trading shop. You’ll also need the staff Font of Power Omen Sceptre as it provides quite a lot of Spirit.

Price of items constantly change depending on how rare they are and how important they are to builds. You should always continue to farm the various currencies in the game, even when you have an endgame build ready.

If you feel like it, you can also get access to the Unique item, Threaded Light Woven Focus, as it provides a lot of Energy Shield and Mana Regeneration, which you need to stay alive and spam the Comet spell. Apart from that, get access to gear that provides you with Mana Regeneration, Energy Shield, and Spirit.

You’ll need a lot of Spirit to use all the Cast on Minion Death, Grim Feast, and the Raging Spirits spells. Make sure to add in some resistance to your build as well since staying alive is extremely important.

Passive Skill Tree

When it comes to the Passive Skill Tree, you’ll need quite a few things. Firstly, focus on Energy Shield and Mana Regeneration as those will not only help you to stay alive, and allow you to spam the Comet spells.

You’ll also need buffs to Cold Spells as your Comets need to deal a lot of damage and, for the entire campaign, you’ll rely on Cast on Freeze for damage. Once you get into mapping, your primary target will be Necromantic Talisman. This is probably the most important passive for the Cast on Minion Death build as it will transfer the bonus of the Amulet to your Minions.

This means the Minions will die once the Fireflower Solar Amulet passive triggers and thereby activate all the Cast on Minion Death spells. The key passives you will need for this build are as follows:

  • Necromantic Talisman
  • Endless Blizzard
  • Glaciation
  • Inescapable Cold
  • Pure Energy
  • Calibration
  • Austerity Measures
  • Energise
  • Invocated Efficiency

Ascendancy Requirement

Stormweaver Ascendancy class in Path of Exile 2.

You’ll need access to the Stormweaver Ascendancy class for this build to work. This is because casting three Comets will require a lot of mana. Additionally, you’ll also have to make sure that your spells deal considerable damage. Both of these can be achieved with the Stormweaver class.

The key passives you have to activate are:

Ascendancy Passive

Description

Constant Gale

This spell will provide you Arcane Surge, which is key to recovering mana.

Force of Will

The value of Arcane Surge is further increased which means you will never run out of mana.

Heart of the Storm

This buff will ensure that 40% of the Elemental Damage you take is converted to your shield. It keeps you tanky and helps you survive the damage output of maps.

How To Play A Cast On Minion Death Stormweaver

Cast on Freeze Sorceress showcase in Path of Exile 2.

Playing this class is very simple, as all you do is keep spamming your Firewall, which will trigger the Raging Spirits. On account of the Amulet, when you ignite an enemy, you’ll take 100 Fire Damage. However, you have the Necromantic Talisman passive unlocked, which will redirect the damage to the Raging Spirits instead of you.

This will mean that the Raging Spirits will die, and this will trigger the Cast on Minion Death spell. This is also why you need the Raging Spirits to be as low as possible so that they can die quickly. Finally, Grim Feast ensures that your Energy Shield is intact so that you don’t get one shot by the enemy when clearing maps.
