- Free content like Primogems, skins, and a new four-star character Lan Yan are expected.
Genshin Impact has officially revealed the release date for the long-awaited Version 5.3, which is expected to be one of the most content-packed updates in recent times. Similar to HoYoverse’s other gacha titles, Genshin Impact follows a tight update schedule, with each new version arriving approximately every six weeks.
The ongoing Genshin Impact Version 5.2 is slowly coming to an end, meaning it’s time for a new set of limited characters to arrive. Players now have only a few days left to pull on the current Limited Banner, featuring Zhongli and Neuvillette, two extremely powerful characters, both lore-wise and in gameplay.

Genshin Impact officially reveals the kit details about the Pyro version of the Traveler, scheduled to arrive in the upcoming update 5.3.
A new post on Genshin Impact’s official Twitter account has revealed more details about the upcoming Version 5.3. According to the post, this update will have a special release date, scheduled to drop on January 1. The exact release time is still unclear and will vary by region. As usual, players will need to wait for a maintenance period, which typically lasts around five hours. However, players rarely mind the wait, as HoYoverse compensates with a generous influx of Primogems. The recently held Special Program event confirmed that the first half of Genshin Impact Version 5.3 will feature two new five-star characters: Mavuika and Citlali.
Genshin Impact 5.3 Release Date Confirmed
HoYoverse typically avoids releasing multiple limited five-star characters simultaneously, especially if the second half of the update lacks five-star units. However, it seems the company made an exception for Version 5.3, likely because the second part will focus heavily on Genshin Impact‘s Lantern Rite Festival. This annual event celebrates the Lunar New Year and is traditionally hosted in the Liyue region. It would make little sense for one or two Natlan characters to join the roster while Liyue remains the centerpiece of the update.
Genshin Impact has also confirmed that Version 5.3 will include plenty of free content, such as new Primogems and even a skin likely to be offered for free. HoYoverse usually releases at least two outfits during updates: one for a four-star character, typically free, and another for a five-star character, available for purchase in the in-game shop. In this case, the free skin will be for Genshin Impact‘s Xiangling, though players will likely have a limited time to claim it.
After months of speculation, HoYoverse has finally confirmed that the second Lantern Rite skin will belong to the 77th Director of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, better known as Hu Tao. Additionally, the second half of the next Genshin Impact update will introduce a new four-star character, Lan Yan, as a free reward. To add her to their roster, players will probably need to complete a few straightforward quests.
