Gas Grenade Dedeye Ranger Build In Path Of Exile 2

Gas Grenade Dedeye Ranger Build In Path Of Exile 2

Deadeye is the king of movement speed in Path of Exile 2. And while bows are more than viable, Deadeye has some interesting interactions with crossbows. The build is all about moving from one pack to the other while throwing the Gas Grenades, and exploding them with the Explosive Shot.

Add explosions from the Herald of Ash on top of that, and you have an excellent mapper that you can take all the way into the endgame. This guide is made to set you up for success when playing Gas Grenade Deadeye in Path of Exile 2, with all the required gem links, passive tree, Ascendancy choices, and gear recommendations.

Gas Grenade Deadeye Overview

Deadeye standing in the beginning of the Dreadnaught during Act-2 of Path of Exile 2.

While the Witch Hunter has builtin explosions, Deadeye brings a lot more to the table: Skill Speed, Movement Speed, Additional Projectile, etc. The build uses the Lightning Arrow
in the beginning before fully transitioning into Gas Grenade
at around Level 22.

And while it has a multibutton playstyle, it feels incredibly smooth to play, thanks to Deadeye.

Skill Gem Menu showing the Lightning Arrow setup that we use until Level 22 while playing Gas Grenade Deadeye build in Path of Exile 2.

We start with the Lightning Arrow
/ Lightning Rod
combo. Your basic rotation is to spam Lightning Rod on top of a pack, followed by using LA until everything is dead. Continue with this combo until you unlock the Orb of Storms
. Once it becomes available, your rotation will change to throwing the Orb of Storms on top of a pack and spamming the Lightning Rod.

Also, do not forget to use the Herald of Thunder
, as it vastly improves your clearspeed.

You will most likely run into some issues with Mana. Thief’s Torment can easily solve this problem, but it is fairly expensive in the Trade League. If not, keep on upgrading your Mana Flask.

Alternatively, if you can somehow get enough Spirit, you can support the Herald of Thunder with Clarity.

Around Level 22, you will get access to the Gas Grenade
, which is when you will swap for a Crossbow. Begin taking all the grenaderelated nodes (if you have not already) and unspec. nodes that grant Pierce, Chain, etc.

At this point, your rotation should be throwing Gas Grenades into the Flame Wall
, followed by spamming some more Gas Grenades. If you do not mind pressing a lot of buttons, you can also add the Flash Grenade
to your rotation to easily stun bosses.

Oil Grenade
allows you to slow enemies down, and even apply Fire Exposure for even more damage – remember to increase the effects of both these debuffs with Encumbrance
and Strip Away
. After you unlock the Explosive Shot
, feel free to remove the Flame Wall.

Lastly, do note that if you are not a fan of a multi-button playstyle, you can always use Radiant Grief
or Birth of Fury
to automate your Ignites, essentially turning it into a onebutton build.

Passive Skill Tree

A complete Passive Tree for the Gas Grenade Deadeye build in Path of Exile 2.

Take the Projectile Damage nodes leading to Blur, Eagle Eye, and Clean Shot – these should help your Lightning Arrow
. Heavy Ammunition and Careful Aim for even more Projectile Damage.

You will not get access to Gas Grenade
until Level 22. Before you swap, get Cluster Bombs, Volatile Catalyst, and Volatile Grenades.

If you have issues with Mana while using Lightning Arrow, use Lightning Rod
paired with the Orb of Storms
.

You can also invest in some defensive nodes, like Leather Bound Gauntlets (make sure to use a pure Armor base to take full advantage of it) and Feel No Pain. Evasion is one of our core defensive layers, which is why Afterimage and Backup Plan are very valuable nodes.

Aside from this, pick up generic Attack Speed, Accuracy Rating, Area of Effect, Cooldown Recovery, and Damage with TwoHanded Weapons nodes.

If you think your damage is lacking, feel free to take Jack of all Trades, Repeating Explosives, and Sand in the Eyes.

What Is The Ascendancy Choice

A basic Passive Skill Tree for Ranger that eventually Ascends into Deadeye that we need for the Gas Grenade build in Path of Exile 2.

Our choice of Ascendancy for the build is Deadeye. Since it is a lot harder to Ascend in Path of Exile 2, there is no need to do more than two Ascendancies while leveling.

Ascendancy

Explanation

Gathering Winds

Deadeye has the most Movement Speed out of any Ascendancy, and the Gathering Winds node is the biggest contributor to that.

As long as you are not being hit, you should get 10% Movement Speed, 30% Skill Speed, and a 150% increased Evasion Rating.

Wind Ward

This is not the tankiest build out there, which is why we recommend all the defensive nodes you can get. You also get increased Skill Speed from the small node.

Projectile Proximity Specialisation – Point Blank

Since it is a Grenade-build, the Point Blank node is free damage. You will not only get increased Projectile Speed, but also 20 percent increased Hit Damage because your Gas Grenades do not travel very far.

Endless Munitions

This lets you fire an additional Gas Grenade, which is a huge DPS increase. You can allocate it in the campaign, but permanently having Tailwind feels a lot better.

An example of a Bombard Crossbow that players will need to play the mid-game variant of our Gas Grenade Deadeye build in Path of Exile 2.

Since your DPS directly scales with your Crossbow, try to upgrade it after every ten to 15 levels. Regularly check vendors for a Crossbow (preferably, a Bombard Crossbow) with flat Physical Damage, increased Physical Damage, Attack Speed, Level of Projectile Gems, etc.

On the rest of the gear, you want the usual i.e., Max Life, Elemental Resistances, Attributes, Mana Regen., and maybe some Life Regen.

During leveling, there is no need to worry about having the best bases. Your primary objective is to get the aforementioned mods on any piece of gear you can find. Crafting in Path of Exile 2 is a lot simpler compared to its prequel. Whenever you find a Magic Item with two desirable mods, hit it with a Regal Orb
, and then slam it with an Exalted Orb
if you land a useful third mod.

Are There Any Mandatory Uniques?

Radiant Grief, one of the recommended Uniques that you can use to play the Gas Grenade Deadeye build in Path of Exile 2.

There are no mandatory uniques needed for the build to function. However, there are a few items that add some much-needed QOL improvements. None of these items, by any means, are the best-in-slot. But if you are not a fan of multibutton playstyle, do try them out. Here are our recommendations:

Unique

Effect

Birth of Fury

It lets you drop Ignited Ground while moving (including dodging) that autoignites your Gas Grenade. However, one major downside of using it is 15% MS. If you can get Rare Boots with 30% or higher Movement Speed, they will feel much better.

Radiant Grief

This helmet also ignites enemies in your presence, letting you spam Gas Grenades – essentially turning it into a one-button build. Moreover, you are able to use boots with a higher Movement Speed. Again, it is not needed, and you are free to wear a rare helmet if you need stats.
