Although Final Fantasy 16 and its Echoes of the Fallen DLC launched in 2023, the momentum continued into 2024. April saw the release of Final Fantasy 16‘s second expansion, The Rising Tide, which took players to the land of Mysidia and brought to light the mysteries surrounding the watery Eikon, Leviathan the Lost. In September, over a year after Final Fantasy 16 was released on PS5, the game saw its long-awaited PC launch on Steam and Epic Games Store, which also included both expansions. Finally, Final Fantasy 16 shocked fans by announcing a collaboration with Bandai Namco that saw Clive Rosfield enter the arena as Tekken 8‘s Winter 2024 DLC fighter.

As per the usual, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy franchise has plenty in store for fans in 2025, including a crossover, a mobile release, and a PC port.
While some developers at Creative Studio 3 will continue working on Final Fantasy 14 in 2025, others will turn their attention to different projects. Another Square Enix lead echoed this sentiment, as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi said that his team was putting all their efforts into Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, and asked fans to bear with them before receiving any new information.
