Creature Commandos Last Episode Will Have A Post Credits Scene

Creature Commandos’ Season 1 is coming to a close, and its creator James Gunn is going the MCU way by including a post-credits scene in the season finale.

Creature Commandos officially launched the newly-created DC Universe on December 5, initially debuting with a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The animated series about Amanda Waller’s monster-filled Suicide Squad analog has a weekly episode release schedule and has already been renewed for a second season. As of this writing, five episodes have been released, with the sixth and seventh (finale) scheduled for January 2 and 9, respectively. Previous episodes lacked any post-credits scenes with cliffhangers left within the roughly twenty-minute runtime. But, according to James Gunn, the season finale will be a bit different.

James Gunn Confirms Creature Commandos’ Post-Credits Scene

When asked by a fan on Threads if viewers of Creature Commandos would witness a post-credits scene, Gunn answered affirmatively, saying: “The season finale will, yes.” It would be the first post-credits scene of the DCU.

Although post-credits scenes have come to be associated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, former DC projects—especially the now-defunct Zack Snyder-led DC Extended Universe—have included post-credits scenes. Suicide Squad, Justice League, Aquaman, Shazam!, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Black Adam, and even James Gunn’s soft reboot, The Suicide Squad, all had post-credits or mid-credits scenes—or both—teasing a future, some of which unfortunately never came to fruition.

The touted post-credits scene at the end of Creature Commandos’ first season may go two ways: a standalone moment for viewer enjoyment or the MCU way via teasing the events of the now-confirmed second season. Going from Gunn’s statement during a press event that the Superman movie would feature a post-credits scene, but as a fun treat for viewers and not as a setup for future events, it is only natural to assume that he would go the same route. The filmmaker would be wary of including scenes leading to a dead end.

That hasn’t stopped fans from speculating what Easter egg might be stuffed in the Creature Commandos post-credits scene, especially considering that the show is already littered with many such nods to the wider DC lore—the women-only island of Themyscira, Gorilla Grodd, the Galaxy Broadcasting System in Metropolis, and even Shaggy from Scooby-Doo‘s Mystery Inc. Some fans are already suggesting that it may hint that it isn’t actually over for the Tin Man; others say it would include mentions of David Corenswet’s Man of Steel or other heroes confirmed to appear in the upcoming Superman movie. The guessing game will continue until January 9, when the finale airs.

Creature Commandos debuted on December 5 and the first five episodes are currently streaming on Max.
