A leaked message of the day has revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone’s upcoming collaboration with Squid Game could feature a separate premium Battle Pass, and fans aren’t happy about it. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 already features multiple Battle Pass variations, including a free version, a paid pass, and then the Blackcell edition, which includes even more cosmetic rewards and consumables for players to get their hands on. Now it looks like another paid pass is about to be thrown into the mix with the new Squid Game event.
After being teased earlier this month, Activision finally confirmed the release date for Call of Duty’s Squid Game collaboration on December 25. Players are now patiently waiting for January 3 to roll around so they can jump into a myriad of different Squid Game-themed modes, pick up a variety of new operator skins and weapon blueprints, and much more. While many expected the included skins to be released via store bundles, a new leak has now suggested that fans must purchase another Battle Pass if they want to make the most of the upcoming event.

Call of Duty Players Angered Over New Squid Game Event Pass
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players say they are “done” with the popular first-person shooter after Twitter user xFleXy_ discovered that the upcoming Squid Game collaboration will include yet another paid Battle Pass. While it has yet to officially appear in-game, the leaked message of the day states that there will be an “exhilarating Event Pass” for Call of Duty’s Squid Game event. It goes on to state that there will also be a “Premium Track route” which allows players to unlock even more rewards, including the Front Man operator.
Over on Reddit, users are blasting Actvision’s decision to include yet another paid Battle Pass into Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone. Reddit user Against-The-Current says they are “done” with Call of Duty as adding another set of microtransactions is “unacceptable,” while 1tankyt pointed out the irony that the paid event pass is monetizing an event that itself is an advertisement. Some users pointed out that Fortnite often features a similar monetization system, but the key difference is that it is a free-to-play title while Call of Duty already costs users $70 per year.
While Activision isn’t necessarily forcing anybody to purchase the upcoming event pass, fans are angered by the studio’s prioritization of new microtransactions as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone’s ranked modes are still riddled with cheaters. Treyarch is continuing to make improvements to the game’s anti-cheat system, but many believe that additional monetization is a slap in the face to users who have paid $70 for a game that still has many issues.
