Who Should Return To The MCU?

She-Hulk Mark Ruffalo Edward Norton

The actor who should return in Avengers: Doomsday is Edward Norton, who hasn’t been seen in the MCU since the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk. This is a movie that some people classify as part of the MCU, while others believe it doesn’t count at all, considering the role of Hulk ended up being recast after this. Marvel knew what they wanted to do by this stage, although the original Iron Man movie is often seen as the launching pad for the incredible saga that has followed since. However, the audience still remembers Norton and his version of the Hulk was certainly entertaining.

People always wondered what the MCU would’ve looked like had Norton continued with the role, considering how talented he is as an actor, but it wasn’t to be. Instead, Marvel Studios brought in Mark Ruffalo, who has done a tremendous job with the character. However, Norton is still an actor that people would love to see in the MCU more often, and Avengers: Doomsday is the ideal film for that to take place.

Why Avengers: Doomsday Is The Perfect Film For His Return

Edward Norton as Miles Bron in Glass Onion

Avengers: Doomsday is the perfect film for Norton to return to because of the multiverse aspect set to play a part in it. Norton’s involvement in the MCU again has been impossible because Ruffalo took on the mantle of portraying the Incredible Hulk character. Having two Hulks in the MCU wouldn’t have made sense at any other stage, but with the multiverse, there’s an opportunity to genuinely have two Hulks involved in the film and have Norton reprise the role.

Downey Jr.’s return to play a villain has opened up the idea that the Avengers could face former stars and characters they’re familiar with. Having older characters step through the multiverse to try and destroy the Avengers would allow Marvel to provide tons of nods to the past, which could involve Norton himself. His version of Hulk appearing would give Ruffalo’s character someone to spend his time fighting against as they would counter each other perfectly, which is something that’s needed as it would ensure Hulk as a character is treated with the right level of respect and doesn’t have to be weakened to suit the villain.

Some Marvel fans have complained about the character of Hulk being humanized throughout the MCU, which has made the monster feel weaker and slightly more ordinary. Bringing back Norton’s version would take Hulk back to the basics, even if he was being a villain in a one-off situation. Norton’s Hulk is all about causing carnage and using his aggression and violence to destroy people, while the scientific brains of Bruce Banner could work alongside Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom to benefit the villains and whatever their dastardly plot is set to be in Avengers: Doomsday.

The Incredible Hulk movie is the odd one out in the MCU because Marvel Studios often chooses to neglect it and not link it in with what’s happening. That’s largely because Ruffalo wasn’t involved in the movie at all, which makes perfect sense, but linking it into the MCU in this way would be a smart decision as the effort that was put into making that film would feel more worthwhile this way. It would increase the lore of the MCU and this character in particular while providing a moment of fan service for those who enjoyed the movie itself.

Throwing Norton into Avengers: Doomsday would be a brilliant decision because fans always love being rewarded for their long-term support. However, the main reason that Marvel Studios should consider this is that Norton being in the film would make perfect sense and connect the dots from Marvel’s past while setting up a potentially amazing showdown within the movie itself when the two Hulks eventually collide. It’s the type of big surprise and entertaining moment that people want to see from a major blockbuster such as this within the MCU, and that’s something Marvel has the chance to pull off.
