Ever looked at your “Continue Watching” row and thought, “There’s no way that’s everything I’ve watched”? Yeah, well, Netflix keeps receipts, and they go way deeper than that handful of your favourite shows sitting on the homepage. I spent a solid half-hour last week digging through my own Netflix history, and let me tell you, finding that Korean drama I watched during lockdown was just the tip of the iceberg.
There were shows I completely forgot about, documentaries I apparently fell asleep to (sorry, Planet Earth), and an embarrassing amount of cooking shows that clearly didn’t improve my kitchen skills. If you want to go down a similar rabbit hole, we’ve put together a small guide just for that.
How To Access And Manage Your Netflix Watch History
While Netflix does have a lot of ways for you to consume its content, like the mobile app or the smart TV interfaces, your entire viewing history feature is actually available through the web browser version. Here’s how you can look it up:
- Head on over to Netflix’s website and sign in with your username and password.
- Navigate to the profile icon that’s in the top-right corner of the screen.
- Once you hover on that, you should see a dropdown menu. Select the “Account” option to access your account settings.
- In the Account section, click on the “Profiles” section.
- Then, select the specific profile you want to check out.
- Find and select “Viewing activity” to access your complete watch history.
Once you’re in the viewing activity section, you will find a chronological listing of your entire watch history, with your most recently viewed content sitting right at the top of the page. If you want to go a little further back than your recent binge-watch lists, just cick on the “Show more” button at the bottom of the page, and you should be able to access all those older entries as you go.
Removing Individual Titles
If you do find yourself in a situation where you need to remove specific content from your viewing history, Netflix actually has a straightforward process for that, too:
- Scroll through your viewing activity and find the title you need gone.
- There should be a “hide” icon (a circle with a cross), right next to it. Once you click on that, the title will be hidden.
- In case you want everything gone, just scroll down and select the “Hide all” option.
Any changes you make to your viewing history may take up to 24 hours to fully sync across all your devices.
Downloading Your History
If, for any reason, you need an entire copy of everything you’ve watched on Netflix, we’ve got you covered there too:
- Navigate to the bottom of the viewing activity page.
- Select the “Download all” option to kick off the download.
- Your activity should be saved into a convenient CSV file, which you can import onto your preferred CSV viewer (I usually go with Excel) and map out your viewing history.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does hiding or removing shows from my viewing history affect my recommendations?
Yep, deleting titles will change what Netflix suggests for you. This is because all the recommendations you get are based on your watch history. The more you take away or hide, the less Netflix will know what type of content you are into.
How much history does Netflix save?
Netflix has literally everything that you have ever watched, right from day one of opening your account. Just keep clicking “Show more” to see older entries. You’ll be surprised how far back it can go (lord knows I was).
If I hide a show, is it hidden on all profiles?
Nope, it only hides it from the profile you’re currently using, so make sure you follow the steps that we’ve mentioned above through the profile you want.
