Everything Happening With Final Fantasy in 2025
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Is Headed to PC
One of the biggest things happening with the Final Fantasy franchise in 2025 involves the highly successful Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which managed to gain so much acclaim that it even won Game Rant’s first-ever Community GOTY award. While it would be nice to see the game’s sequel arrive in 2025, however, fans will have to wait a bit longer for that. Nevertheless, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is landing on PC next year, with a release date of January 23, 2025. Square Enix has already confirmed that no more content will be released for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but at least fans will have its PC port to look forward to ahead of the launch of the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy.
Final Fantasy Is Crossing Over With Magic: The Gathering
Fans of both Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy will be pleased to know that the two franchises are crossing over in 2025, specifically on June 13. The crossover will pull elements from every mainline Final Fantasy game, from the first game all the way through to Final Fantasy 16, ultimately resulting in the largest collection of Final Fantasy artwork ever assembled in a single game, with pieces from both Magic: The Gathering artists and experienced Final Fantasy artists. Early previews have already shown off some incredible art, with original depictions of iconic characters like Cloud Strife and Sephiroth, both of whom are key faces of the Final Fantasy franchise.
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile Is Expected to Launch in 2025
While it doesn’t currently have a release date, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is also expected to launch in 2025. Just as it sounds, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will bring the hit MMO to iOS and Android devices. However, unlike Final Fantasy 14, which requires a subscription to play, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will be free-to-play but will not be incorporating gacha mechanics. The game will also feature various playable races, seamless class and job switching, and fun activities like fishing, Triple Triad, and Chocobo racing at the Gold Saucer.
While Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is expected to launch in 2025, fans should still keep their expectations in check, as anything can happen.

Other Final Fantasy Projects Could Receive Updates in 2025
Potential Final Fantasy Remakes and Remasters Could Receive Updates in 2025
There have been countless rumors and leaks circulating over the last several years about potential Final Fantasy remakes and remasters, some of which were tied to games like Final Fantasy 8 and Final Fantasy 10. However, only a handful of these rumors have survived into the end of 2024, and they could receive updates in 2025 if they are real projects.
At the top of the list of Final Fantasy remake rumors is Final Fantasy 9, which was talked about quite a bit in 2024. While many of these rumors have yet to be confirmed or denied, with no new Final Fantasy games currently on the docket to be released in 2025, the potential Final Fantasy 9 remake could receive an update of some kind in 2025. If the rumors of a Final Fantasy 9 remake are true, it’s unclear whether it would receive the same treatment as Final Fantasy 7 has received with its remake trilogy, but considering it is one of the most beloved Final Fantasy titles ever made, it might be well-received either way.
There has also been some speculation about a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster, largely fueled by industry insiders and online publications. According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster is “real and happening,” although no official details have been released by Square Enix. Assuming it is only a remaster and not a remake, the supposed Final Fantasy Tactics remaster would likely include updated visuals, quality-of-life improvements, and more, bringing the classic tactical RPG to modern platforms.
If the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster is truly happening, it could receive a formal update from Square Enix in 2025.
Finally, a potential remaster of the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy has also been fueled by rumors and unverified leaks. Despite being what many fans believe to be one of the worst Final Fantasy games to date, it is largely agreed that Final Fantasy 13‘s protagonist, Lightning, is one of the series’ best. In light of that, if the rumors of a Final Fantasy 13 trilogy remaster are true, at least fans will get to spend some more quality time with Lightning alongside what would likely be improved visuals and quality-of-life updates. Reportedly, the rumored Final Fantasy 13 remaster could potentially launch in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Final Fantasy 16 May Come to Xbox in 2025
It has also all but been confirmed by Square Enix that Final Fantasy 16 will be coming to Xbox, although the developer is unable to announce a release date. The reason for the developer wanting to hold back on the release date is because it hasn’t yet been confirmed whether Final Fantasy 16 really will be coming to Xbox consoles. However, Square Enix has said that porting the fantasy RPG to Xbox is one of its goals, so it’s more than likely to happen. With that in mind, 2025 might be a decent release window for it.
