- The decision aims to address casting challenges caused by multiple teams using the same sponsor tag.
- Concerns arise over the potential impact on brand partnerships and the Indian Gaming Community’s growth.
Recently, the Indian Gaming Community felt shocked as Nodwin Gaming, who is India’s one of the biggest gaming and esports organizers, conveyed a message to some BGMI teams about some unusual rules. Where they asked the respective players to remove the iQOO tag from their IGNs during ESL SnapDragon Pro Series. In this article, we are going to discuss the stipulations which Nodwin Gaming has put regarding their in-game names.
Nodwin Gaming asked its players to remove the iQOO tag from their IGNs
Recently, during a launch event, iQOO which is India’s one of fastest-growing smartphone brands announced that they are going to become the principal sponsor of some top BGMI teams in India. These teams are:
- iQOO SouL
- iQOO Revenant Xspark
- iQOO 8bit
- iQOO Reckoning esports
- iQOO Orangutan
- iQOO Team Tamilas
The players of these teams used the iQOO tag in their in-game name (IGN). Previously, this practice was started when India’s arguably the most popular esports organization, Team SouL’s BGMI roster got sponsored by iQOO. Recently, after the aforementioned partnership, all the sponsored teams also started using the iQOO tag in their IGNs.
Nodwin Gaming saw this issue and conveyed a notice which stated that players would not be able to use the iQOO tag in their IGNs. However, it is only applicable to the IGNs as players will still be using the iQOO tag in other places such as GFX, videos, etc.
Nodwin Gaming conveyed the following message to its players stating, “Additionally, we would like to bring your attention to the following guidelines concerning your title sponsor, IQOO: All players are required to exclude “IQOO” from their in-game names while participating in the tournament.
The possible reasons behind Nodwin Gaming’s decisions
According to several official and unofficial sources, the main reason that Nodwin Gaming has stated is that the casters who are going to cast the ESL SnapDragon Pro Series Challenge Season are facing several obstacles and struggling while casting a match.
It is because every 1 out of 3 players has the iQOO tag in their in-game name. Due to this, when two teams who are sponsored by iQOO get engaged in a fight between them the casters will have a hard time casting that fight. We at GamingonPhone tried reaching the Nodwin Gaming PR team, however they refused to comment anything on the same.
Currently, the Indian Gaming Community is going through a transition phase. Audiences are exploring different games. Many brands are coming forward to make strategic partnerships with the teams. In recent times, iQOO is a very renowned name in the scene since they are consistently sponsoring different official and unofficial tournaments such as Battlegrounds Mobile Pro Series (BMPS). They have also sponsored some of the rising names in the BGMI esports. They are indeed setting a benchmark.
If other brands see this kind of treatment from tournament organizers towards the teams and their principal sponsors like iQOO, it may create a negative impact going forward. It may also result in a low amount of financial partnership between the teams and the brands. Overall it will harm the Indian Gaming Community as a whole.
