Marvel Rivals Players Take Issue With Spider-Man Uppercut Hitbox

Summary

  • Playing as Spider-Man is challenging due to his unique movement abilities.
  • Fans seek rebalancing for the abilities of other characters in the game, including Magik and Black Widow.

Spider-Man’s uppercut attack in Marvel Rivals is leaving some players confused and upset, as its hitbox seems to extend far past the end of the web-slinger’s physical reach. While Marvel Rivals is proving to be a popular hero shooter nearly three weeks since its launch, Spider’Man’s uppercut is just one of the moves causing players to ask NetEase for some rebalancing efforts.

Playing as Spider-Man in Marvel Rivals isn’t easy, as the development team has purposefully made him one of the most difficult heroes in the game to master. Featuring movement-based abilities that allow him to crawl on walls and swing on webs across large swaths of each map, moving as Spider-Man can prove quite a bit trickier than characters that primarily run or fly across the game’s world.

Passive abilities in Marvel Rivals can be easy to forget about, but these hidden abilities can be real game-changers.

Although Spider-Man’s steep learning curve in Marvel Rivals may keep some players from donning a Spider-suit immediately, some players who have tried playing as Spider-Man have been pointing out that his jumping uppercut attack has the ability to hit from a ridiculously long range. Reddit user Alaskan-Bull-Worm has shared a video that shows the distance from which this attack can hit an unmoving opponent, with the target of the attack still suffering its effects despite being what appears to be about 10 to 15 feet from Spider-Man’s fist.

Marvel Rivals Fans want Changes Made to Spider-Man’s Uppercut

One of the troubling things about the hitbox on Spider-Man’s uppercut is that it isn’t consistent with the hitboxes of similar moves launched by other characters. Fans of the game are issuing complaints that Marvel Rivals‘ Magik‘s uppercut requires extreme precision in order to hit and only deals a fraction of the damage as Spider-Man’s move, leading some players to abandon her as their planned main. Others have issued similar complaints about Black Widow’s kick, which seems to miss its target the majority of the time.

While it’s one of the more recent complaints about moves in the hero shooter, Spider-Man’s punch isn’t the only move that has fans begging NetEase for some tweaks. Jeff the Land Shark’s ultimate move in Marvel Rivals has also been a major source of controversy, allowing him to swallow any number of opponents and then spit them off the edge of the map, easily racking up kills. While fans have been hard at work devising counters for this devastating move, NetEase seems to be leaning into it instead of backing away, adding a limited-time event called Jeff’s Winter Splash, in which all players must play as Jeff in a Splatoon-like map-covering contest that relies heavily on the use of Jeff’s ultimate.
