One Piece Takes The Lead
Unsurprisingly to many people, One Piece tops the list this year as Japan’s most-read manga of 2024. In 2024, One Piece covered the Egghead Island arc in its majority, and also some chapters from the newest arc, Elbaf.
One Piece has always been religiously followed in Japan, with the majority of its sales being from there as well. One Piece continues its strong run as a manga among Japanese audiences, even though it has been ongoing for over 2 decades now, and will probably go on for more years to come, depending on how long the final saga ends up being.
Top 2 to 5 Most Read Manga in Japan
Jujutsu Kaisen, Kingdom, Oshi no Ko, Frieren Take The Lead After One Piece
One Piece aside, some other manga had their time to shine in 2024. As expected, Jujutsu Kaisen made it very high, being beaten by only One Piece. However, the manga ended this year. In third place, Kingdom, a long-running seinen manga, is still going strong. While it might not be as popular overseas, it is widely beloved in Japan.
Oshi No Ko also ended this year, similarly to JJK, and has been a huge hit among audiences since its anime debut. And in fifth place, Frieren has been a huge hit. The story captivated countless fans. Sadly, the manga has just gone on an indefinite hiatus.
Top 6 to 10 Most Read Mangas in Japan
Outside of the top 5, but still strong enough to make it to the top 10, there are mangas such as Demon Slayer. Demon Slayer ended over 4 years ago, so its strong performance shows its popularity.
Detective Conan, The Apothecary Diaries, and SPY x FAMILY make up the rest of the top 10. My Hero Academia almost made it, but ended up finishing in 11th place.
