After the long awaited Omens of Tyranny update, which introduced the Illuminate, vehicles, and melee weapons to the game, Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead tried its hand at crossovers. The first of these crossovers was with fellow PlayStation studio Guerrilla Games’ defunct title, Killzone. While the cosmetics looked great, fans were up in arms over how much the items cost.

The Helldivers 2 Killzone Crossover Didn’t Deserve The Backlash
Helldivers 2 was once an uplifting and collaborative live-service gem, but since launch, the community has become a hotbed of outrage.
In true Arrowhead style, they managed to make it up to the community, but it left players wondering about future crossovers. While COO Johan Pilestedt has said that he doesn’t want to dilute the game with unrelatable collaborations, fans have been wondering which IP would come to Helldivers 2 next. However, fans have been pondering over one absolutely ridiculous idea.
Smile And Wave Helldivers, Smile and Wave
Over on the Helldivers subreddit, the aptly named Revolutionary-Face69 proposed an absolutely mad idea. They literally dared Arrowhead to have a crossover with the Madagascar animated movie and bring the penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Private, and Rico to the game as cosmetics.
While that sounds absolutely ridiculous, the Penguins of Madagascar actually fit right into the ‘send four idiots’ subgenre that Helldivers 4 belongs to, along with titles like Deep Rock Galactic and Left 4 Dead. While it’s probably never going to happen, we can’t stop thinking about how hilarious it would be, and neither could the rest of the community.
One comment quoting Skipper from the movies said, “Rico, we’ll need special tactical equipment. We’re gonna face extreme peril. Private probably won’t survive.” Weirdly, this perfectly captures the Helldivers 2 experience, especially when a lower level player joins a squad of veterans.
“Ok, I hate crossover posts, and I hate the idea of mixing IP with HD2,” said one disillusioned player. “But this, This I LOVE!”
Skipper barking out orders would fit right into the gameplay as well, as one comment demonstrated. “Kowalski, grab those samples, Rico, you’re on orbitals, go nuts!”
Of course, as Pilestedt said, crossovers like this will hinder the immersion that Helldivers 2 offers, and future crossovers will mostly be military-based. However, the efficiency of the penguins in destroying the Illuminate cannot be questioned.
