Helldivers 2 was once an uplifting and collaborative live-service gem, but since launch, the community has become a hotbed of outrage.

With new players coming to the game, veteran Helldivers have decided to carry the cadets in lower difficulties, giving them the gift of liberty and high-level stratagems. However, every game has its own unsaid etiquette, and experienced players are teaching newbies how to work as a team when taking on enemies of freedom.

This Is The Helldiver Way

Over on the Helldivers subreddit, experienced players have been noting down some gameplay etiquette tips that newer players should read up on. While things like deliberate friendly-fire and quitting games for Super Credit farming is understood, there are some things that newer players aren’t aware of. Leave it to long-time players in the community to show them the way.

The original post by GreenMarmoset covers things like not stealing other players’ equipment unless offered, the fact that Super Credits, Medals, Requisition, and Samples are shared, not to call in extraction while the rest of the team is away, and not to request a supply drop if you’re running solo.

Other players from the community also added to the list with etiquette points like not to call in reinforcements at your end if someone on the other side of the map is eliminated, tagging the equipment of a downed Helldiver is always appreciated, and not to get too worked up over accidental friendly-fire.

Some other pointers included tagging a heavy for reinforcements to drop on, throwing bombardment stratagems away from the team, and calling in reinforcements away from the action if it’s too hot to handle. Letting sentry turrets do their job is an overlooked but important tip, as they tend to clear more minor enemies than an air-strike.

Of course, some of these guidelines are open to interpretation. Not everyone knows these unsaid rules, and even if you follow them, someone else may think you’re not doing the right thing. Unless someone’s being actively toxic, there’s no need to get worked up over someone’s actions in the game. Because, as much as we love delivering democracy, it is, after all, just a game.

Happy Holidays Helldivers!
