Top-rated survival sim Sons of the Forest drops to its lowest-ever price

Sons of the Forest, a survival sim that traps you on a cannibal and mutant-infested island is 50% off in Steam’s Winter Sale. You’ll need a strong stomach to deal with some of its horrors, but at $14.99 this is an absolute steal, more so if you get some friends involved.

If you’re ready for one of the most entertaining and harrowing survival games out there, then Sons of the Forest is a must-buy at this knock-down price. After crash-landing on an island, far larger than prequel The Forest, you’re forced to fend for yourself.

That might sound like a cue for some Minecraft-style shenanigans but, while there’s crafting involved, that game’s Creepers have nothing on Sons of the Forest’s cannibals and mutants.

They’ll actively hunt you down, to the point where, on regularly difficulty at least, you’re juggling crafting and fighting. They know where you live, and they want to invite you for dinner. That’s before you encounter the mutants that are just one long vertical mouth.

The good news is that you have some amazing tools at your disposal. You can get your hands on golf carts, hang gliders, rope guns and more, whether you find them of craft them using the island’s many resources.

While Sons of the Forest is fun with friends, you’ve also got an AI-controlled pal, Kelvin, to lend a hand in solo play. And if you really don’t want to deal with unwelcome face-munching visitors, you can disable enemies entirely, turning what, by default, is a deeply unsettling outing into a more chilled-out settlement-building game.

So if you’re craving a survival game where the emphasis really is on survival, head to Steam and snap up Sons of the Forest for $14.99. But hurry, the Steam Winter Sale ends January 2nd.
