It takes a certain level of recklessness, desperation, or blind faith for someone to willingly participate in a game as perilous as Squid Game—not just once, but a second time. To voluntarily re-enter such a brutal contest, knowing the horrifying stakes and the high likelihood of death, defies logic and common sense. Yet, that’s exactly what Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) intends to do—return to the deadly games once more, this time determined to confront The Frontman and fight back. The second episode of Squid Game season 2 ends on a thrilling note, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats. On one hand, Gi-hun has finally convinced The Frontman to put him in the competition again and give him a chance to annihilate the organization. Moreover, Jun-ho, Woo-Seok, and their team are following Gi-hun with the help of a tracking device, so that they can enter the mysterious island as well.
On the other hand, a woman named Kang No-eul (Park Gyu-young) joined the game and became the first new player viewers were introduced to. However, the ending made it clear that she was entering the competition as a guard, not a player. Her introduction gives audiences a glimpse into how the guards are chosen and why they are chosen. Episode 3 seems to move forward with the story and finally introduces viewers to the Squid Games and the players who are going to play this time around. With Gi-hun already knowing how this game moves forward, his experience might be helpful for the other players, and they could just follow his lead to win the competition. Let’s take a look at what happened in Episode 3 of Squid Game season 2 and where things stand now.

Gi-hun and Jun-ho’s plan gets decoded
In the second episode, audiences got to see that a dentist planted a tracking device in a fake tooth and inserted it in Gi-hun’s mouth. This helped Jun-ho, Woo-Seok, and their team to know his whereabouts. Correspondingly, in the third episode, the team follows Gi-hun’s tracking device and finally finds an island where no one goes, except for some fishermen. They follow the tracking device and climb the rocky landscapes with determination, scaling jagged cliffs and maneuvering through treacherous terrain, their every step fueled by the hope of uncovering the truth hidden at its destination. However, their hopes are dashed when they find the tracking device by a fisherman.
The finding of the tracking device made everyone believe that The Frontman and his team knew that something catastrophic was coming their way. As a result, they just took the danger out of the way.
Gi-hun and the beginning of his second Squid Games
Gi-hun, aka Player 456, and all the other 455 players have reached the island and are woken up by an alarm. They are all dressed in green jumpsuits, each adorned with their player numbers stitched neatly on the left side. As soon as they gather, they are welcomed by the guards who tell them about the games and their rules. No changes have been made to the rules and the winner of the game takes 45.6 billion won in prize money. Initially, the players ask the guards about the game and why are they brought here. When certain players try to be over-smart, the guards show the kind of debt they are in. Myung-gi, aka Player 333, is a former YouTuber who told his subscribers to invest their money in a certain kind of cryptocurrency. However, that particular cryptocurrency tanked dramatically, wiping out its value and causing significant financial losses for his subscribers who had invested based on his recommendation. Meanwhile, a rapper named Thanos (T.O.P.), aka Player 230, is also shown to have a lot of debt and that’s one of the reasons why he has joined the game.
Meanwhile, the other players who are prominently featured in the episode are: Jun-hee (Player 222), Yong-sik (Player 007), Geum-ja (Player 149), Jung-bae (Player 390), and Hyun-Ju (Player 120).
Just like the previous edition, the first game they play is “Red Light, Green Light.” The rules have not changed: Green Light means you move, and Red Light means you stop. If you move when the gigantic doll says “red light,” you will be killed. However, the players don’t know that they’ll be shot. Before the game, Gi-hun tells everyone to follow his lead because he knows what’s going to happen and tells them they will be shot if they move after hearing “red light.” Although people take him for granted at first, the entire scenario changes when one of the players gets shot right between her eyes. After that, everyone starts following his orders and plays the game like he tells them to. Although that doesn’t stop the bloodbath, a moment in particular takes the game to a whole new level.
Thanos takes a pill, which seems to make him high, and while others are stopping, he takes the liberty to push some of the contestants on purpose. As a result, they all get killed. In the concluding part of the game, many players cross the line, but one of the players who was shot in his leg is helped by Gi-hun and Hyun-ju to cross the line. However, the guard still kills that player, making everyone wonder why that happened.
Are the Squid Games over?
91 players were eliminated after the “Red Light, Green Light” game and 365 players remained in the game. The events of the first game left everyone in shock, and the moment the guards entered the room, the players gasped in fear, desperately pleading to be released. Additionally, Gi-hun makes the guards realize that Clause 3 of the game gives players the right to hold a vote and decide if they want the games to continue or not. Gi-hun tells everyone that more people will get killed if they continue to play the game. However, the players start questioning him about how he knows everything about the game, which forces him to say that he has played these games before and is the only person to have survived it. Additionally, he says he won 45.6 billion won and took home the prize money. His comments made everyone believe that he might be able to help them with winning the game.
A few moments later, the voting begins and, once again, the voting is tied and everything now relies on Player 001, whose face is not shown initially. With the voting tied, Player 001 presses the “O” button and makes it clear that the game will continue. But things change drastically when the identity of Player 001 is revealed, and it turns out that The Frontman, aka In-ho, voted to continue the competition. He voted just to make Gi-hun believe that there is no good in this world and that everyone moves forward when money is involved.
With the game continuing, fans can expect more deaths and more action-packed sequences.
