Both Metaphor: ReFantazio and Persona 5 share book reading as a stat activity, though how Metaphor entwines it with its party sets strong inspiration.
In the latest special double issue of Weekly Famitsu magazine (cataloged by ryokutya2089), Hashino says that there are no “concrete” plans to make Metaphor: ReFantazio a series, but he does hope that it can be one some day. Hashino then notes that Metaphor: ReFantazio started with the goal of creating a third JRPG series which would stand alongside Shin Megami Tensei and Persona, saying he hopes that he can turn it into a flagship title that represents Atlus and Studio Zero. “There are no concrete plans to make Metaphor into a series…I do hope it can become a series one day,” said Hashino.
Hashino also comments on a setting for a game he’d like to tackle in the future, saying that one idea for a future title would be the Sengoku period. He notes that a JRPG set in a world based on that specific time period could be similar to Capcom’s Sengoku Basara series, which he laughs at as well.

Metaphor: ReFantazio sold a million copies on launch day, which makes it one of the fastest-selling titles in Atlus’ library. The developer isn’t slowing down any time soon either. While a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel currently doesn’t appear to be in the works right now, Atlus appears to have a lot of plans for 2025, if rumors about Persona 6 news and the official international version of Persona 5: The Phantom X are to be believed. For now, fans will need to wait and see what Atlus has in store next year.
