Pokemon GO Player’s Master Ball Wasted on Generation 5 Electric-Type

Pokemon GO Player's Master Ball Wasted on Generation 5 Electric-Type

Summary

  • Parent finds child wasted their precious Master Ball on a common Pokemon in Pokemon GO.
  • Tynamo, the Pokemon caught, traces back to Pokemon Black and White and is a two-star catch with good HP.
  • Despite the disappointment, parent embraces the mishap.

A Pokemon GO-playing parent walked into a Christmas Day nightmare, realizing that their young child had wasted one of their precious Master Balls on a lowly Tynamo. While there are currently around 900 varieties of Pokemon that players can catch in Pokemon GO, players have only been able to get their hands on a few Master Balls, and a common Electric-type is clearly not their intended target.

Players have been catching Tynamo in Pokemon GO since March 2021, when it began appearing in wild encounters, 5k eggs, and raid battles. The little electric fish traces its roots back to the Japanese release of Pokemon Black and White in 2010, where its fully evolved form, Eelektross, gained fame for being the first Pokemon with no type-based weaknesses thanks to its Levitate ability, which makes it immune to Ground-type moves.

A Pokemon GO player that was lucky enough to capture a Shiny Geodude ends up regretting evolving the Pokemon all the way to Golem.

Its stock in Niantic’s augmented reality mobile game is significantly lower, however, so it was quite the shock for Reddit user Jeanious90 to walk into a room and find that their 4-year-old child had caught a Tynamo using one of the player’s coveted Pokemon GO Master Balls. Master Balls are special in Pokemon GO, not only because they are guaranteed to catch any Pokemon they hit, but because players have only been able to unlock four of the consumable items since the game’s launch in 2016, sometimes locked behind paid content. This parent said they were only out of the room for two minutes before they discovered their child had used one of their Master Balls on an unexpected and disappointing Christmas present for them.

Pokemon GO Player’s Kid Wastes Master Ball on Christmas

While it’s certainly not the Pokemon that this parent wanted to use their Master Ball on, the Tynamo isn’t completely worthless. Its individual values, while not flawless, at least rank it at two stars, and its HP registers at a perfect three bars. That’s better than some players with similar horror stories can attest to, like a player in October who reported seeing their Master Ball wasted on a 0-star Pokemon.

Despite the disappointing nature of the more-recent waste of a Master Ball, this parent is taking the catch in stride. Remembering the sense of community in Pokemon GO, they’ve named the tiny fish after the Master Ball that caught it and added it to their favorites list, stating the memory of this in-game Christmas disaster is one they’ll always cherish. Told by one commenter not to let their kids near their phones, this loving parent simply stated, “Enjoy PoGO once by yourself. Enjoy it infinitely more times with your kids (even at the expense of a masterball).”
