After collecting the three unique keys in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, players will set out to collect the six colored orbs. The game gives you very little information to go off, and in this way it remains quite different from modern RPGs, which tend to go overboard with directions. Because of this, however, players may struggle to know where to begin their quest. The truth is, players are free to tackle this problem anyway they see fit. This guide will focus on Dragon Quest 3 Remake‘s Green Orb, which is located in the mysterious town of Theddon.

How to Find Theddon in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Once players have acquired the Ship from the King of Portoga, they are free to sail the high seas. This opens up an entire world of possibilities, one of which is the town of Theddon. To reach this location, you’ll want to start from either Baharata, or Wayfarer’s Shrine. The shrine is much closer, and is located on the small strip of land on the coast west of Ibis.
If you haven’t yet visited the shrine, you can start from Baharata and sail west. You should see a quest marker (if you have them turned on) on the southern tip of the western continent, directly south over the mountains from Ibis. To reach Theddon, you’ll need to head around the southern tip, then turn right at the river inlet along the southwestern coast. Theddon is located at the end of the river, on a small peninsula.
How to Solve the Theddon Jail Cell Puzzle in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Many players will locate Theddon early in their playthrough, and not know what to make of the jail cell that appears to be impossible to enter. At first, it is impossible to enter. To complete this quest, you must acquire Dragon Quest 3 Remake‘s Ultimate Key. Make sure to do this before trying to get the Green Orb.
There are several interesting things to find in Theddon, including the Night Light, which will be used in the quest to solve the jail cell mystery and collect the Green Orb. It can be found in a chest of drawers upstairs from the Equipment Shop, but only during the day. This is because, while you’ll find several inhabitants roaming around town at night, during the day, they will all be skeletons. The Night Light allows you to switch between day and night whenever you like.
When you start exploring the town, you’ll find a run-down jail cell at the northern end of town. At night, you’ll find it guarded, and a prisoner inside clearly has a quest marker over his head. During the day, you can enter the cell through the crack the guard was blocking, but the prisoner is a skeleton. This is why you need the Ultimate Key.
Once you have the Ultimate Key, return to Theddon. If it is daytime, go outside the village and use the Night Light (or the Tick Tock spell) to switch to night. Head back to the jail cell and speak to the prisoner. He attempts to give you the Green Orb, but is suddenly interrupted by an ominous voice. The voice turns out to be the Dying Fire, an enemy boss that you must defeat.
How to Defeat Dying Fire in Dragon Quest 3 Remake:
Dying Fire is a tricky foe, mostly because it is capable of creating doubles of itself. On top of that, the battle also includes several Phantasms, which are higher level versions of Shades. Luckily, both enemy types have a weakness that can be heavily exploited, especially if you are moderately leveled up.
The Dying Fire is weak to Zap spells. If you have Zapple, you can take out a single Dying Fire fairly quickly. If you have Kazap (we didn’t yet), the fight can be almost trivial. Use the Hero to focus Zap variations on each Dying Fire, and let the rest of the team focus on the Phantasms first.
Phantasms are weak to Crack spells. Our Mage and Sage both had Kacrack when we entered this fight, and it made short work of the Phantasms. If you have dual casters, use one to constantly hit them with ice, and the other to switch between attacks and healing. The Dying Fires aren’t weak to Crack, but they have 0% resistance, so it is still worth using Kacrack on the lot of them.
Wear any equipment that helps negate insta-kill spells. Dying Fire likes to cast Whack, and when there are several Dying Fires in the encounter, the chances that one will hit goes up quite a bit.
Once the fight is finished, the player will earn the Green Orb. If this was your first orb, consider getting the Red Orb next, followed by the Blue Orb.
