No Man’s Sky has a universe full of things to explore, almost all of which has still never been seen by another human being, ever. Its ever-expanding (and ever-updated) universe remains fresh, but you’re going to need to craft, build, and explore in order to keep yourself at your best.

No Man’s Sky: How To Get Faecium

Farming in No Man’s Sky needs fertilizer, and that means you’re gonna need Faecium.

One of the resources you’re going to have to find regularly in No Man’s Sky is salt. Salt, on its own, is used for quite a few different crafting recipes and can be refined into something else entirely. It’s also used as an ingredient to refine into a plethora of other resources, making it a staple ingredient.

How To Get Salt

Salt in the player's inventory in No Man's Sky.

Luckily, salt is a fairly easy ingredient to obtain, and on a planet where salt is present, you’re likely able to get quite a bit of it.

Water Planets

Planets that have quite a bit of water on them generally also have quite a bit of salt on them, too. It’s easy to tell whether a planet has large concentrations of salt available on it from space; from your spaceship, scan the planet, and it’s going to display the most abundant resources available.

Not all planets with water have water present across the entire globe. It can be helpful to locate a large body of water from space and descend into the atmosphere from there, rather than land on the planet and look for water from inside the atmosphere. Depending on how far away from water you land, this can take a lot longer.

Head underwater and start scanning the minerals around. Many of them are going to include salt in one way or another, either as a primary or secondary resource from gathering the mineral. Use your mining laser to obtain the salt and whatever else the mineral provides.

Salt can also be created in a Refiner in two different ways.

Salt

1x Di-Hydrogen + 1x Oxygen

Chlorine, oxygen, and di-hydrogen are all other resources that you can find while exploring the universe. In chlorine’s case, it’s also the refined version of salt, but if you’ve accidentally refined too much salt into chlorine, it’s a mistake that you can reverse.

Buying Salt From Galactic Trade Terminals

Salt available for purchase from the Galactic Trade Terminal in No Man's Sky.

Salt can also occasionally be purchased from Galactic Trade Terminals, located in Space Stations. This will not always be the case, and it is going to vary station by station, as will the price of the salt, if it is available.

Salt’s availability in the Galactic Trade Terminal does not correlate to salt being present in the system.

Using the analysis visor in No Man's Sky.

Mineral Extractors can also be used to gather salt, and at a regular rate without requiring constant maintenance. They will need power to operate, and will need to be used on a deep-level mineral deposit of salt, which can be found by using an Analysis Visor using the Surveying upgrade.

What Is Salt Used For?

A cluster of technology inside of a player-built base in No Man's Sky.

The raw form of salt is used for quite a few different things; primarily, it’s used in a refiner to create more consistently useful resources, like glass.
