Control Is Today's Free Epic Games Giveaway

Epic Games has been giving away a surprise game every day in the spirit of the holiday season. Yesterday, on Christmas day, we got the eerie and amazing Dredge. However, it seems Epic is going for a one-two punch on Boxing Day by giving away another spectacular game, this time from 2019 – Control.

Will Control 2 Be Influenced By The Ashtray Maze?

Remedy is moving towards an RPG approach for Control 2, so where does that leave its action spectacles?

Control, my personal Game of the Year in 2019, established one of the most interesting video game universes till date. Jesse Faden finds herself at the center of a paranatural thriller as she visits the Federal Bureau of Control in search of her long lost brother, only to be named the director of the organization.

Control armed us with the Service Weapon, which could change its form depending on what kind of weapon you wanted to use. Armed with this weapon, telekinetic powers, and even flight, Faden must make her way around the Oldest House, fighting an entity that’s trying to take over the place.

On her adventure she comes across Objects of Power, seemingly everyday items that hold some sort of paranatural power that must be contained, lest they wreak absolute havoc on their surroundings. It features some of the most interesting world building in the form of office documents and memos detailing instances of such activities.

The game was in contention for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2019, but ultimately lost out to FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. It managed to clinch the award for Best Art Direction at TGA, but won the big prize at The Golden Joystick Awards.

However, the biggest achievement of Control was setting up the Remedy-verse, and revealing that Alan Wake and Quantum Break existed in the same universe.

Jesse Faden from Control suspended in the air as she fires her service weapon at enemies, an explosion in the area.

While we don’t know much about its in-development sequel, Remedy is calling Control 2 an ‘action-RPG’, and the game received a hidden teaser in the latest DLC for Alan Wake 2. The teaser was hidden pretty well, and was only accessible to players who found a hidden lightbulb and pulled on it three times.
