The free PS Plus games for December 2024, available to claim until January 6, 2025, are It Takes Two, Aliens: Dark Descent, and Temtem. It Takes Two is a critically-acclaimed co-op game, winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2021. Aliens: Dark Descent, meanwhile, is an RTS set in the sci-fi horror Aliens franchise, while Temtem is a Pokemon-like MMO. While there is a great deal of variety when it comes to the free PS Plus games for December 2024, it seems that the free games on offer this month have not really captured the attention of subscribers.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will be losing access to one of the service’s best games on Tuesday, January 14.
This is according to data from Game Insights, as shared by TrueTrophies. According to their data, there was a player count drop of 10.9% from the free PS Plus games for November 2024 to the December 2024 lineup. The December 2024 lineup generated the least amount of interest from PlayStation Plus subscribers, making it the worst-performing month of the year for the service. TrueTrophies pointed out that the second-worst month was February 2024, which consisted of Foamstars, Rollerdrome, and Steelrising.

As far as the most popular month for PS Plus in 2024, that crown goes to October 2024. The free PS Plus games for October 2024 included the Dead Space remake and Doki Doki Literature Club Plus – two games perfect for the spooky season – and was headlined by WWE 2K24. WWE 2K24 isn’t even a year old yet and earned mostly positive reviews at the time of its launch, so it’s really no surprise that it helped October 2024 become the most active month in 2024 for the PS Plus Essential free games.
It will be interesting to see what 2025 has in store for PlayStation Plus. Unfortunately, the wait for the free PS Plus games for January 2025 announcement will be a little later than expected. Oftentimes the free PS Plus announcement comes on the last Wednesday of the previous month, which would be today, but that’s not going to happen. Instead, PlayStation Plus subscribers can expect the January 2025 free games to be announced on Wednesday, January 1. Time will tell if next month’s free games are able to top the December 2024 offerings or not.
