Nintendo Fans Want Switch 2 to Bring Back Wii U Feature

Summary

  • Some Nintendo fans want Miiverse back on Switch 2.
  • Miiverse was a popular social feature on Wii U and 3DS.
  • Rumors suggest Switch 2 reveal event on January 8, but fans shouldn’t hold their breath.

Some Nintendo fans hope that the upcoming Switch 2 console features a new version of Miiverse. The Switch 2 still has not been officially revealed at the time of this writing, but its debut is just a matter of time. In fact, Nintendo is expected to reveal the Switch 2 within the next few months, so fans should get to see the new console sooner rather than later.

Miiverse, for the uninitiated, was a unique social feature that was used on the 3DS and Wii U. With it, players could share notes with other players as well as see their Mii avatars and engage in various other social features. Some games even used Miiverse for gameplay purposes, allowing players to share items and enjoy various other bonuses. Sadly, Miiverse was discontinued in 2017, not long after the launch of the original Nintendo Switch.

Rumor: Switch 2 Could Fix Switch’s Biggest Problem

It seems as though Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console may fix the original Switch’s biggest problem.

Miiverse’s demise was mourned by some Nintendo fans, and now there’s a call to bring the feature back for the Switch 2. As it stands, we don’t have any official world on most of the Switch 2’s features, but it seems unlikely that Miiverse will be brought back. Still, if Nintendo sees that there’s a lot of fan demand for Miiverse to come back in some capacity, perhaps it will at least be taken under consideration.

While Nintendo still has not pulled the curtain back on the Switch 2 at the time of this writing, there are at least a few details fans know about the system. For instance, Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 is going to be backward compatible with the original Switch. Not only that, but it will also carry over existing Nintendo accounts, a first for Nintendo. Since Miiverse was never a part of Switch Online’s suite of features, that’s not necessarily good news for those hoping to see Miiverse make a comeback, unfortunately.

The Switch 2’s version of Switch Online will likely be near-identical to what’s offered on the original Switch, but fans can’t rule out potential upgrades. Maybe such upgrades could include a social networking feature equivalent to Miiverse, even if it’s not quite the same as what was offered on the Wii U.

The latest rumors suggest that a Switch 2 reveal event is happening on January 8. If those rumors turn out to be true (and fans definitely shouldn’t hold their breath), then all questions about the Switch 2’s online features should be answered soon enough.
