Jujutsu Kaisen took over major Japanese newspapers! Jujutsu Kaisen‘s last chapter was released in Shonen Jump back in September, with an unexpected turn of events right at the final moments of the series. As has been happening with many other endings, many fans harshly criticized the way Gege Akutami finished the story.
However, the manga’s conclusion in the magazine isn’t necessarily the definitive ending. This is especially true for weekly series, in which the author usually doesn’t have enough time to put everything they want down on paper. So the true curtain call is the final volume, which usually includes additional pages (and sometimes epilogues). Of course, the final volume will not change the events shown in the original final chapter, but can add more context to it.

A few amazing shonen manga ended in 2024. Here are the most prominent ones.
Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the series that has additional pages in the final volume. Volumes 29-30 are out in Japan on December 25, and to celebrate it, the series is taking over major newspapers, such as Asahi Shimbun, Mainichi Shimbun and Yomiuri Shimbun. Each of the newspapers features illustrations of different characters (Gojo in Yomiuri, Kento in Asahi and Choso in Mainichi).
One of the Biggest Hits of All Time
Jujutsu Kaisen has recently reached 100 million copies in circulation, making it one of the biggest manga hits of all time (alongside Demon Slayer and many others). Keep in mind that copies in circulation doesn’t necessarily mean all these copies were sold to end customers (except for the digital copies), but it is a good indicator to understand of whether the demand for a series is high or low. Since shops will request publishers to send more copies if demand is high, series that sell better will have more copies circulating overall.
Despite the criticism that followed the release of the last chapter, it seems fans are still looking to buying the final volumes (they’re probably interested in seeing what happens in the new epilogue).
Big Things Are Coming in 2025
Jujutsu Kaisen has recently announced major news. The compilation movie is now set to release in May, and a key visual for the third season has also been unveiled. Fans will have a lot to look out for next year!
Also, Gege Akutami teased that a new project is coming, which might be a sequel, a prequel or something unrelated to the series (the third option seems less likely since the message was written for the Jujutsu Kaisen panel at Jump Festa 2025, but there is still a possibility that it is a brand-new project).
Jujutsu Kaisen is available to stream on Crunchyroll. The last manga chapter can be read for free on Manga Plus and Shonen Jump services.
