How To Get And Use Facewear In FFXIV: Dawntrail

With the launch of Final Fantasy 14‘s Dawntrail expansion, Fashion Accessories have changed and Spectacles have become their very own thing: Facewear. If you already own some spectacles and you log in to Dawntrail expecting to be able to use them straight away, you’ll be mistaken.

Trying to click the Facewear option via the Character menu will say you haven’t unlocked this feature yet. So for those of you wondering where your beloved Spectacles have gone, or those of you looking to get some for the first time, here’s everything you need to know.

Updated December 25, 2024: We’ve updated this article to include the latest Facewear options.

How To Unlock Facewear

The Facewear pop up when you unlock the feature in Final Fantasy 14.

Much like Fashion Accessories, to unlock the Facewear feature you simply need to obtain some Facewear, which can be purchased from various NPCs and the Marketboard. We cover this further down.

Facewear Spectacles will be called ‘The Faces We Wear’ followed by the specific item name. For example, the old Rose-colored Spectacles are now The Faces We Wear – Rose-colored Spectacles.

Where the confusion comes in is for players who already owned the Spectacles before the change happened.

How To Make Your Old Spectacles Into Facewear

The Calamity Salvager in Final Fantasy 14.

Your Spectacles are gone from your Fashion Accessories menu but fear not, you can still make them Facewear. Visit any Calamity Salvager and choose ‘Spectacles Exchange’ to convert them to Facewear.

  • Old Gridania at (X;10.0, Y:8.4)
  • Ul’dah – The Steps of Thal at (X:12.6, Y:13.1)

Now you’ll have access to them in the Facewear menu!
