Helldivers 2 is in a near constate state of chaos at the moment, as the Illuminate is proving a little tougher to eradicate than we initially thought. Having successfully wiped them off Calypso, the Illuminate came back with a vengeance to invade Genesis Prime, and players have been scrambling ever since in an attempt to defeat our mysterious new alien foe.
The best way to defeat someone is to know them first though, and a recent breakdown trailer for the Omens of Tyranny update may have provided players with some hints on how to decipher the Illuminate’s alphabet. A Reddit user called DreamToBeLazy recently shared their workings on the Helldivers 2 subreddit, using the latest trailer as a basis for their work.
Helldivers 2 Fans Are Trying To Translate The Illuminate Language
DreamToBeLazy very cleverly spotted that when the names and titles of Arrowhead’s developers pop on screen, they very briefly turn into the Illuminate alphabet. In the Illuminate language, the names of these developers flick between symbols quite rapidly, but their job titles stay the same, meaning we can cross-reference our own alphabet with that of the Illuminate’s to get a decent idea as to what it could look like.

Helldivers 2 Proves Easier Can Be Better
“No pain, no gain” isn’t always the best policy. Sometimes, making it easier on the players can increase playtime and activity.
Using this trailer for the bulk of the alphabet, DreamToBeLazy then used other sources to gather as many letters as they could, which resulted in an almost complete alphabet, with only the letters ‘J’ and ‘U’ missing and a couple of symbols left over. In the Reddit thread, it’s speculated that these two mystery symbols could be accented letters from the Swedish alphabet, as Arrowhead is based in Sweden.
With this almost complete alphabet, several attempts have already been made to translate some of the words that can be seen written on enemies, like the legs of the tripod. Apparently, the results ended up being “gibberish”, though it’s also speculated they could be anagrams of Swedish words, or protected by another layer of coding. I wonder who the Helldivers 2 version of Alan Turing is going to be?
