Pokemon GO: Holiday Event Part 1 Guide

Pokemon GO has officially started their holiday event and this is just the first part. Here is everything to know about the event.

Lots of Big XP Bonuses

As befits an event heralding the start of a new year, the 2025 January Eggs-pedition is heavily focused on allowing players to earn lots of XP by playing Pokemon GO. Both newbie players looking to gain levels quickly and experienced players who need millions of XP per level can benefit from this event. These bonuses will include:

  • 3X XP for the first Pokemon caught each day in January
  • 3X XP for the first Gym or PokeStop spun each day in January

Special Timed Research

Special Timed Research tasks will be available during the Eggs-pedition event. The Timed Research will begin on January 1, 2025 and expires on January 31, 2025. All rewards earned as part of the Timed Research must also be claimed by the end of the day on January 31, or players will no longer be able to access them. The rewards for this Timed Research have been revealed: 15000 XP and 15000 Stardust. It has not been revealed whether individual tasks or steps within the Timed Research may feature other rewards, such as Pokemon to catch.

The specific tasks required to complete this Timed Research have not yet been revealed. However, given the event’s focus, it is likely that tasks may include spinning PokeStops and using Incubators to hatch Eggs. Due to the Season of Dual Destiny’s focus on the Unova region from Pokemon Black and White and Black 2 and White 2, participating players may also be challenged to catch or hatch Pokemon from this region.

Incubators, Gifts, And More

Of course, any Pokemon GO event focused on hatching Eggs would not be complete without plenty of incubators. During the January Eggs-pedition event, players who purchased access will obtain one single-use Incubator per day the first time that they spin a PokeStop or a Gym. Players who spin a Gym or PokeStop every day in January will be able to earn up to 31 single-use Incubators. It has not been confirmed if February’s Eggs-pedition bonuses will also include daily Incubators, but this may be the case.

Finally, during the January Eggs-Pedition Access, participating players will be able to hold, receive, and open more gifts per day than the standard amount in Pokemon GO. This can encourage players both to visit more PokeStops and to send more Gifts to their in-game friends. As Gifts can contain valuable items like Potions, Berries, and even Eggs, the ability to hold and open more is particularly valuable. The specific event bonuses include:

  • Players can hold up to 40 Gifts in their Item Bag
  • Players can open up to 50 Gifts per day
  • Players can receive up to 150 Gifts per day via spinning PokeStops or Gyms
