Summary

  • Dragon’s inactivity is strategic due to Revolutionaries needing to grow stronger before challenging the government.
  • Waiting for Dragon’s move builds anticipation and speculation among fans, making him one of the most anticipated characters.
  • Despite Dragon’s lack of major action, his eventual appearance is anticipated to be one of the best moments in One Piece.

Some One Piece characters, despite being beloved by the community, haven’t done much to affect the story so far. Fan-favorite characters like Shanks, Dragon, and even Akainu, often lurk in the shadows, planning every move with ruthless efficiency and patiently waiting for their next appearance. For many One Piece fans, this makes for an interesting and mysterious character that will change the story when they first appear. In many ways, fans are putting stock in characters that haven’t done much so far but will do something big when they appear.

While characters like Shanks and Akainu have done at least a few things in the story of One Piece, Dragon, the Head of the Revolutionary Army, hasn’t done anything since his first appearance in the story. So far, the character has been patiently waiting for over 20 years to make a move and still shows no sign of leaping into action. Although this may seem like a bad thing, leaving many fans impatient due to his inactivity, overall, it may be the strongest move for his character.

Who Is Dragon In One Piece?

A Man Who Hasn’t Done Anything In Over 20 Years

Monkey D. Dragon, in One Piece, is the father of the protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, and son of the Hero of the Navy, Monkey D. Garp. Dragon is the Head of the Revolutionary Army, an organization that is set on taking down the World Government, and the most wanted person in One Piece. Despite holding such an important position, Dragon has not been a major player in the story so far, only crossing paths with Luffy once.

There can be no happiness in a world where the undesirables are thrown away. – Dragon

During the Loguetown Arc of One Piece, even before the Straw Hats entered the Grand Line, Dragon made a brief appearance to save Luffy from Smoker. Although other Revolutionaries have acted since then, Dragon himself has barely left his room, waiting patiently to make his next move. As it turns out, the last time Dragon helped Luffy in Loguetown was in 1999, around 25 real-world years ago. Outside of this, the only times Dragon is shown on screen after that is for brief reactions and small conversations about the current state of the world.

  • Dragon’s Lack Of Action Is Important To His Character
  • Acting Too Fast Would Be A Fatal Mistake For A Revolutionary

Although it may be painful to see such an interesting character sit around and do nothing, the One Piece Revolutionary, Dragon’s lack of action may be the perfect thing to reach his full potential. Additionally, his inactivity, though it may seem a bit boring, makes sense in the story of One Piece, and from a writing perspective as well. Despite being a bit too early to tell, the slow-cooking first major Dragon’s appearance may make for one of the greatest character moments the series has seen thus far.

Dragon is an extremely intelligent and patient character. It’s completely understandable that the Head of the Revolutionary Army won’t make a move until he’s sure he can win.
