9 Sonic The Hedgehog Characters Sega Should Bring Back

9 Sonic The Hedgehog Characters Sega Should Bring Back

Sonic the Hedgehog may star the titular blue blur, but it also has a wide and varied cast of characters. Sonic has plenty of friends, from Tails the Fox and Knuckles the Echidna who frequently join him on his adventures to anti-heroes Shadow the Hedgehog and Rouge the Bat. Since the series began in 1991, many characters have been introduced, some more beloved than others.

Sonic The Hedgehog: 10 Games To Play For The Story, Ranked

Sonic the Hedgehog might not be primarily known for its stories, but some of the Blue Blur’s games are worth checking out for their narratives.

However, some characters have faded into obscurity as time carries on. The series does bring back fan favorites from time to time, like the return of Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel in Sonic Mania. It’s time for Sega to bring back more fan favorites players haven’t seen in a while.

Honey The Cat

Fighting Vipers’ Crossover Kitty

Sonic The Fighters: Honey the Cat's 2012 Appearance.

Honey the Cat technically was in the original release of Sonic the Fighters, but she wasn’t fully implemented until its 2012 port. This cat is actually a crossover character based on Honey from Fighting Vipers, a hopeful fashion designer who is willing to fight for what she wants.

Though Honey has made some appearances in the Archie and IBW comics, her only in-game appearance was in Sonic the Fighters. It’s time for this fashion designer to make a proper appearance, provided Sega can work past the difficulties of being a homage to a character from another game.

Bark The Polar Bear

His Bark Is Worse Than His Bite

Bark the Polar Bear holding Chip from the Sonic the Hedgehog Comic.

Bark the Polar Bear may have made several cameo appearances since his time in Sonic the Fighters, but the fighting competition was the bear’s only main appearance. He also appeared in the comics, but otherwise was stuck only appearing in cameos.

We can’t believe these gems are having their 30th anniversary already. Feeling old, reader?

A new game could take advantage of the characterization Bark received in the comics, allowing the polar bear to team up with Bean the Dynamite and Fang the Hunter to cause Sonic and his friends. They could possibly be hired by Eggman for that purpose, or serve as playable antagonists or anti-heroes like Team Dark in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes.

Bean The Dynamite

Go Out With A Boom

Bean Fighting A Grey Copy Of Himself.

Like Bark the Polar Bear, Bean the Dynamite is a bomb-wielding duck whose only playable appearance was in Sonic the Fighters. He made cameos in games like Sonic Generations and Sonic Mania, though most of his characterization can be found in the comics.

This excitable duck could use his bombs to blow up obstacles in Sonic’s way, or he could take a more villainous route alongside Bark and Fang to cause problems for our heroes. He could also take a more neutral route in order to pester both the heroes and villains with his overly energetic nature.

5

Jet The Hawk

The Babylon Rogues Return

Jet the Hawk with Wave and Storm Sonic Riders.

Jet the Hawk appeared as the leader of the Babylon Rogues in the Sonic Riders trilogy. The hawk leads his group of thieves to collect rare treasures related to the ancient history of his team. However, aside from his appearance in these racing games, his only other notable appearances come from Sonic Generations and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games.

If the Babylon Rogues made their reappearance in the main series, Jet would naturally lead the band of thieves. They could serve as allies or rivals to Sonic and his friends, using their knowledge of technology and roguish tactics to find an advantage against whoever became their enemy next.

4

E-102 Gamma

Rebuilt And Repurposed

E-102 Gamma Robot in Sonic Adventure.

Gamma was originally created as a robot to serve under Dr. Eggman in Sonic Adventure, before slowly gaining a conscience and ultimately destroying themselves to save the bird trapped inside them. A similar-looking model, named Chaos Gamma, was playable in Sonic Battle.

Which Sonic Character Are You Based On Your Zodiac?

From Amy to Dr. Eggman, here are the Sonic characters you relate to based on your Zodiac sign.

It’s high time Gamma gets rebuilt to fight alongside the heroes once again. Either Eggman could rebuild the older model, possible to betray him once more, or Tails could revive his old ally to stand beside the heroes again. Amy would definitely be happy to see her robotic companion, especially if there was a way to restore Gamma’s memories.

3

Marine The Raccoon

She Promised To Return

Marine The Racoon Using Her Water Powers.

Marine was a secondary character in Sonic Rush Adventure who helped the heroes in their quest. She comes from Southern Island in the Sol Dimension. Blaze also comes from the Sol Dimension and serves as its princess.

Marine had plenty of potential left unrevealed in her appearance. At the climax of the story, Marine suddenly obtained mysterious water abilities to help push back the Egg Wizard. No one knows where these powers came from or what Marine is capable of. If Sonic journeyed to the Sol Dimension, it would be a perfect chance to bring back Marine and show just what she can do.

2

Shade The Echidna

The Dark Brotherhood Shouldn’t End There

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood: Shade In And Out Of Uniform.

Shade led the Marauder forces in Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, though she later turned against the villains and became Sonic’s ally. However, the game ended on a cliffhanger and never received a sequel. You can only assume Ken Penders had something to do with that due to the inclusion of echnidas in the game.

If Sega could work out any potential legal troubles standing in their way, fans would love to see Shade the Echidna return. Her presence could answer many of the lingering questions about what happened to the echidnas in the series. It’s high time Sonic Chronicles received its planned sequel.

1

Emerl

Another Ultimate Life Form

Emerl Sonic Channel Banner.

Emerl was a robot known as a Gizoid that was created over 4,000 years ago. His main appearance was in Sonic Battle as a playable and customizable character. In this game, Emerl becomes good friends with the heroes, especially Cream and Amy, but ultimately has to be destroyed.

With Emerl reappearing in Sonic x Shadow: Dark Beginnings, this robot is once again on fans’ minds. It’s high time Tails recreated Emerl with his soul intact but safe from his destructive tendencies. Cream and Amy would love to see their dear friend again, especially after their tragic farewell.
