James Bond Producer Shares Requirements For The Next Lead

Many are already excited to know who will be the next James Bond after Daniel Craig announced that No Time to Die would be his last movie from the franchise. It has been three years since fans saw it and there’s still no new name for who will portray the famous British secret agent, but its producer just shared a new update about the casting.

Several actors have portrayed James Bond throughout the years, including Sean Conney, Pierce Brosnan, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, David Niven, George Lazenby, and Craig, to name a few. Among the requirements were charisma and suave appeal, physical fitness, British or Commonwealth heritage, age, and talent. Most of the actors who landed the role had exuding charm and were in their 30s or early 40s with admirable acting talent. Barbara Broccoli, the James Bond Producer, reportedly shared two requirements for the next lead, and it’s safe to say that these requirements aren’t new at all.

One actor who starred in a newly released film is getting the public’s attention, with many wanting him to be the next James Bond.

A report from the Wall Street Journal shared an update about Broccoli’s views on James Bond. Broccoli, who is the steward for the franchise along with her half-brother Michael G. Wilson, is reportedly adamant that James Bond remains a male Brit. “Broccoli has told friends that she doesn’t have any qualms with casting a nonwhite or gay actor, but does believe Bond should always be played by a man, and should always be played by a Brit,” the report read.

The requirements are not surprising as the previous leads qualified for it, too. All previous James Bond leads were male and were Brits or living in a nation with Commonwealth heritage. Connery was from Scotland, Moore, Niven and Craig were from England, Dalton was from Wales, and Brosnan was from Ireland. Lazenby was from Australia, a founding member of the Commonwealth.

The announcement only intensified the rumors that Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Paul Mescal could be the next James Bond. Both actors are among the popular choices for the next Agent 007, and both qualified to Broccoli’s standards. The Kraven the Hunter star is an English actor born in Buckinghamshire, England. The Gladiator star is an Irish actor and hailed from Ireland. Taylor-Johnson was rumored to be the top choice, but Mescal was just close behind him.

Ana de Armas, who appeared in No Time to Die, endorsed Mescal. “I think Paul Mescal should be the one,” the Ghosted actress said. Her co-star Chris Evans did not argue but admitted that he loved Taylor-Johnson. “Paul Mescal is great. I’m a big Aaron Taylor-Johnson guy,” the Captain America actor said. Earlier this year, there were rumors that Taylor-Johnson was offered the role and they were only waiting for him to accept it. However, it’s been months, but there were no official announcements about the next James Bond lead. However, it was clear that the Marvel actor was more than willing to take on the project. “I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment,” Taylor-Johnson told magazine Numéro. There’s still no concrete development about the next James Bond movie and its new lead star, so fans should wait and see.
