Summary
- A Baldur’s Gate 3 modder has created a new Paladin subclass: Oath of the Hells.
- This subclass is similar to being an Oathbreaker, but with unique abilities.
- It doesn’t require you to follow a strict code, so you won’t lose your abilities.
A Baldur’s Gate 3 player has added a homebrew subclass for Paladins. Oath of the Hells is a completely unique subclass, granting you fire-based attacks and other hellish abilities.
The new oath was created by Nexus Mods user Symonius, and comes with a breakdown of exactly what powers you’ll unlock through levelling up. The subclass is inspired by the Oathbreaker paladin build, albeit with these new hells-based abilities.
This Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Adds A New Paladin Oath
Oath of the Hells is very different from the other oaths that Paladins can take in-game
“Homebrew new Paladin subclass that imbues infernal spells and hellish unique Oath powers,” reads the mod’s description. “You can burn the enemies on the flames of Avernus, conjure hellish fiends or torture your victim imposing devilish seals. The oath leveling also includes some unique spells for paladin like eldritch blast and scorching ray. Also includes the new Hellfire Smite only for this subclass.”
Unlike the other Paladin subclasses, Oath of the Hells doesn’t require you to follow a specific code. Therefore, you can’t become an Oathbreaker if you follow this path, as making specific decisions in-game won’t cause you to go against your pledge. However, for roleplaying sake, here is the oath you take:
You devoted yourself to the will of the archdevils of hells to bring infernal retribution on the mortal world.
In the base game, you have access to three Oaths: the Ancients, Vegence, and Devotion. The next big update, Patch 8, is set to add another one called Oath of the Crown. This will be available at some point next year, as Patch 8 adds a new subclass for every class available in the game.
However, if you’re looking for more oaths in the meantime, you’re in luck. As we covered earlier this year, there are other mods you can install that add new subclasses, including some that add other oaths typically available in Dungeons & Dragons.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the long-awaited next chapter in the Dungeons & Dragons-based series of RPGs. Developed by Divinity creator Larian Studios, it puts you in the middle of a mind flayer invasion of Faerûn, over a century after the events of its predecessor.
