The Sonic film franchise was off to a rocky start thanks to Sonic’s original design. His teeth were distracting but Paramount righted that wrong and now these movies are intentionally funny instead of meme funny although these films have produced some good memes too from great moments.

Sonic The Hedgehog: 5 Things Shadow Does Better Than Sonic
In the rivalry between Sega’s iconic hedgehogs, the edgier Shadow has a few advantages over Sonic.
Without spoilers, there are certainly good memes to make out of the latest film, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, once it comes to VOD and Blu-ray. It also has a lot of great lines that both adults and kids can enjoy whether they are Sonic fans or not. So, let’s get the best quotes with spoilers on.

“Happy Bea Arthur Day?”
Sonic
The movie opens close to a race involving Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails going through the woods. It’s a mini-game to distract Sonic from a surprise birthday party or more like a surprise Earth Day party. Sonic misinterprets the sign to say “Happy Bea Arthur Day” which is a joke more for the parents in the audience than their kids. Bea Arthur was the star of many films and TV shows, most prominently The Golden Girls. As a holed-up child for many years, it would make sense that Sonic would marathon The Golden Girls at least once on DVD.

“The More You Talk, The More I Want To Hit You.”
Shadow
When people meet Sonic, they generally feel he is annoying. He’s a wisecracking guy who doesn’t seem to take things seriously which can rub people the wrong way like Shadow. Shadow is already on the edge to get revenge, but Sonic’s constant quips in Japan are only making it worse. It’s a good, but quick fight scene involving Sonic chasing after Shadow who is driving a motorcycle, and shooting at him which must be an homage to the 2006 Shadow the Hedgehog game. This scene was an homage for fans who dug that angsty spinoff.

“Are You Detective Pikachu?”
Random Child
One of the best jokes in the movie is a dig at another big children’s game adaptation: Detective Pikachu. When Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails eat at the Chao Garden with Commander Walters in Japan, a little girl goes up to Tails and thinks he is Detective Pikachu. It’s funny when another video game references another so blatantly.

Sonic: 7 Best Rivalries, Ranked
The Sonic franchise has seen both serious and comical rivalries over the years, with these being among the very best.
In the 90s, this would have made bigger headlines since Sega and Nintendo were bitter rivals. Now they are pretty chill with each other even going so far as to make a series of Olympic games with Mario, Sonic, and all their pals competing in mini-games.

“Please, Join Me In My Crab.”
Agent Stone
Agent Stone has been a great character from the first movie as a pining friend to Dr. Robotnik. He saves Sonic and the others after machines blow up the Chao Garden. Once they follow him back to a dock, he explains that Dr. Robotnik is being framed and he can prove it. That’s when Agent Stone calls a giant robot crab from beneath the waves as he utters this line. The line is awkward but it’s perfectly delivered to make it seem like a punchline. Inside is a bigger reoccurring joke wherein Dr. Robotnik has fallen on hard times and is in love with Spanish soap operas.
4
“There’s No Such Thing As A Friendly Ghost.”
Knuckles
Knuckles calls himself 100% muscle in the movie and this beefy boy isn’t bluffing. He’s definitely the strongest physically from punching through a barrier to lifting a tank. However, Knuckles does have shockingly funny weaknesses. He’s afraid of ghosts which comes out when they are exploring the abandoned facility. When he denies this fear, the film throws back to a clip when the three critters are watching the live-action 90s adaptation of Casper. When the flashback ends, Knuckles says ghosts aren’t friendly which, according to a lot of paranormal investigation shows, is relatively true.
3
“It’s Almost Like We’re Played By The Same Actor.”
Dr. Robotnik (Ivo and Gerald)
Jim Carrey reprises his role as Dr. Ivo Robotnik but he is joined by another version of himself: Gerald. Gerald is Ivo’s grandfather who has been locked up for fifty years thus explaining his absence. When they meet in the abandoned building, they pull the old mirror gag and even break the fourth wall by calling out that it’s like they’re played by the same actor.

Sonic The Hedgehog: 6 Laziest Characters
These Sonic characters aren’t exactly in a rush when it comes to saving the world or capturing the Blue Blur and would prefer to nap than go fast.
It was easy to tell that Carrey was having a blast let loose as Dr. Robotnik in the first two movies. It’s even more apparent in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 since he gets to play two evil baddies and is constantly winking at the camera.
2
“Donut Lord.”
Tom’s Sweater
This is actually not a quote in the movie but it is technically a reoccurring joke that is solidified in sweater form in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. From the first movie to this third sequel, Tom is referred to as a lover of donuts as he does eat them a lot and he belongs to the police force. In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Tom has a sweater that says “Donut Lord” and it is covered in crocheted donuts. If Tom went to an Ugly Christmas sweater contest, he would win hands down. He would also win some kind of creepy award for the oddest hobbies as he develops a puppet to look like himself. The puppet isn’t in the movie much, but every time it speaks, it’s gold.

“This Ends Now!”
Shadow
This might sound hyperbolic, but getting to watch Sonic and Shadow fight each other in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in their Super Forms was like the equivalent of watching Goku as a Super Saiyan fight Frieza for the first time in Dragon Ball Z. It was an epic fight pure and simple which was kicked off with a cliched line from Shadow telling Sonic it was time to end this. The fight is well animated and assuredly fans across the nation will jump up in their seats when the two face off followed by tears when they start to bond. The final run of the movie is a hodgepodge of emotions that’s for sure.
