Power Charges are one of the many effects players can use to create ridiculously overpowered builds in Path of Exile 2. They work a little differently compared to their previous iterations, and if you’re a newcomer to the series, you’ll want to know how to take advantage of these in order to unlock their true potential.
Almost every class in Path of Exile 2 can use Power Charges, though some have easier access to them than others. Here’s what you need to know these charges, including some of the best ways on how to generate and use them.

What Are Power Charges in Path of Exile 2?
Think of Power Charges as tokens for certain skills or skill effects. They don’t do anything by themselves, but certain abilities like Falling Thunder
consume them to become more powerful. Unless otherwise specified, Power Charges are not required to cast abilities, and they aren’t needed for the majority of builds. However, they do serve as the cornerstones of certain builds, like the Tempest Flurry Invoker build for PoE 2.
Power Charges share the same traits as Frenzy and Endurance Charges — by default, none of them do anything by themselves. However, they’ll be spent whenever a skill that consumes them is used. There may also be items or other effects that make use of these charges in different ways.
Power Charges last 20 seconds by default, though this duration is refreshed every time a new Power Charge is earned.
How to Generate Power Charges
Power Charge generation is often tied to skills. Killing Palm
grants one Power Charge every time you land a killing blow on an enemy with it. Profane Ritual
is another great example of a Power Charge generator — it consumes Corpses not only to generate charges, but to also Chaos damage over time over the corpse’s area.
There’s also the Resonance skill in PoE 2’s passive skill tree, which turns any Frenzy Charge you gain into a Power Charge. This interaction can lead to some crazy combos with abilities and Support Gems, allowing players to use a much wider variety of skills for builds that would otherwise have no use for.
Also, it’s worth noting that the Cast on Ailment (Shock, Freeze, Ignite, etc.) buffs can be built to automatically generate Power Charges for players. For example, binding Profane Ritual to one such buff means the skill will trigger without any input from the player, provided that they are applying the related Ailment constantly. Cast On Ailment buffs gain energy and trigger faster when affecting stronger enemies.
Power Charge Support Gems
There are a number of Support Gems that help players generate more Charges or make skills consume them, empowering their effects. Notable Charge-related Support Gems include:
- Profusion
- Perpetual Charge
- Potential
