New Morrowind mod adds a DLC-sized portion of Oblivion with over 160 quests

The Elder Scrolls 6 is likely years away at this point, and the wait for Bethesda’s next fantasy RPG isn’t getting any easier. We’re fortunate that the modding community behind the Elder Scrolls games – Skyrim especially – is so strong, then. Multiple times a year we’re graced with mods that range from small, mechanical changes to colossal, DLC-sized experiences. I’m pleased to tell you that today’s new creation is the latter, as it adds a frankly absurd amount of material to Morrowind.

Abecean Shores is the first release from Project Cyrodiil, which plans on adding part of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion’s landmass to Morrowind via a mod. If that sounds like a gargantuan undertaking for the RPG, that’s because it is. Developed by the Project Tamriel Team, this Cyrodiil expansion for Morrowind is yet another creation that blows me away.

Now that the first part of Project Cyrodiil is here with Abecean Shores, you can start exploring part of Oblivion within the game of Morrowind. You’ll find the port city of Anvil, new and memorable characters, handcrafted interiors, and even a plethora of quests to undertake. So if the wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 release date feels neverending, this is the perfect timesink.

“Like Tamriel Rebuilt and Skyrim: Home of the Nords, Project Cyrodiil is a fully realized, fully playable fan-made expansion to Morrowind,” the Project Tamriel Team writes. “Players may travel to Cyrodiil at any level, and at any stage in their character’s journey. Like the original game, our quest content is designed to maximize roleplay and choice, and to immerse players in the world and the culture of its people.”

Abecean Shoes contains over 160 different quests, divided up between miscellaneous activities and faction questlines. You’ll come across the Thieves, Fighters, and Mages Guilds, and even the Imperial Legion, too. There are also new factions like the Itinerant Priests, and even the Kingdom of Anvil itself, adding some extra color to what you remember from playing Oblivion.

I’m always on the lookout for DLC-sized Skyrim creations to bring to you, but Project Cyrodiil is already showing that Morrowind is still worth revisiting, even two decades later.

Project Cyrodiil: Abecean Shores is available on Nexus Mods right now. Before downloading the mod I’d take a look at the installation information section first, as there are a handful of other mods you’ll need for Morrowind beforehand.

Project Tamriel isn’t the only team making DLC-scale mods for Morrowind. Tamriel Rebuilt is a sort of sister development to Project Tamriel, and aims to add the entire Morrowind landmass to the game with new quests and activities. 2023’s Tamriel Rebuilt Andaram update is one of the biggest so far with over 600 quests, if you fancy losing even more time in the game.
