Dragon Ball Drops Thrilling News at Jump Festa 2025

Summary

  • Dragon Ball manga to be reprinted with dual covers by prestigious authors like Togashi and Araki.
  • New illustrations by Toriyama featuring Majin Kuu and Majin Duu unveiled at the event.
  • Special Dragon Ball Super manga chapter focusing on Trunks and Goten to be released on February 20, 2025.

The Jump Festa is happening once again in Japan this weekend, and Dragon Ball delivered major news on its panel yesterday. As expected, they paid a short homage to Akira Toriyama, the series creator who sadly passed away back in March.

For those unfamiliar, Jump Festa is an event held by Shueisha to celebrate Shonen Jump titles. Those who can attend it on-site not only get the opportunity to watch presentations with major announcements for many series, but also can check out boots, engage in activities and buy exclusive merchandise sold at the event. Jump Festa has taken place once every year since 1999 and usually happens during a weekend in December.

Jump Festa 2025 is coming up soon and there’s reason to expect some major announcements.

During the Dragon Ball panel, great news for manga fans were revealed. It was revealed that the original Dragon Ball manga will be reprinted in a special dual-cover set, featuring the original covers for the 42 volumes and the versions made by many prestigious manga authors, like Yoshihiro Togashi (Hunter x Hunter), Hirohiko Araki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) and Eiichiro Oda (One Piece) for the Dragon Ball Super Gallery project. Also, new illustrations drawn by Akira Toriyama himself and never publicly revealed before were unveiled at the event.

The illustrations, unfortunately, are not publicly available yet (they likely asked people not to photograph and interrupted the transmission), but according to Oricon News, they depicted Majin Kuu and Majin Duu. Furthermore, they announced a new special chapter for the Dragon Ball Super manga (currently on hiatus), focused on Trunks and Goten and already slated for February 20, 2025.

What about the Dragon Ball Anime?

Fans will have to wait a little longer

Despite the panel featuring Dragon Ball Daima voice actors, there has been no news regarding the series, neither was any anime announced. A lot of fans are expecting that Dragon Ball Super will eventually get a new series/season to adapt more arcs from the manga, but since, as far as we know, there is a complicated legal dispute over the rights of the series, involving Shueisha and a former editor, it might take longer for any anime series to be greenlit.

Dragon Ball is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
