Baldur’s Gate 3 Player Figures Out Which Companions Are The Most Agreeable

Baldur's Gate 3 Is Getting 20 Percent More Daily Users In 2024

Summary

  • A Baldur’s Gate 3 player mapped out every conversation to find out which companions agree the most.
  • They discovered the best and worst friends in Baldur’s Gate 3.
  • We can also see that agreeability tends to track along moral alignment.

The creativity of the Baldur’s Gate 3 community never ceases to amaze—they’re answering the questions that nobody asked, yet are still curious to know the answer to. Have you ever wondered which companions share the most similar opinions? If we were to place each of our beloved companions on a political compass, where would they land?

That’s a mystery for another day, but Tarresque_Named_John has begun to shed light on the question of where the opinions of companions fall, in relation to one another. In a Reddit thread, this pre-eminent scholar used data-mined dialogue files to map how often each companion agreed with another companion, quantifying the agreeability of each pair of characters.

By The Numbers

Having access to data-mined files certainly made the task easier as they didn’t have to spend hundreds of hours triggering every conceivable piece of dialogue, but this was still a Herculean task nonetheless. In their methodology, the definition of agreeability is outlined as whether the companion expresses approval or disapproval of the player’s actions. If two companions both approve of an action, they are seen as agreeing with one another. If they have differing opinions, then that’s considered a disagreement.

It’s best to observe the results on Tarresque_Named_John’s well-designed graphs, but I’ll give you an overview of some of the highlights. The most agreeable pair is Minsc & Karlach, who agree 97 per cent of the time. They are followed by Wyll & Halsin (96), Minsc & Halsin (96), Jaheira & Halsin (95) and Karlach & Halsin (95). Clearly, Halsin is a very agreeable guy.

Baldur's Gate 3 Wyll and Karlach Together

The least agreeable pair is Astarion & Wyll, who only share an opinion 50% of the time. Considering their opposite moral compasses, this isn’t at all surprising. They are followed by: Minthara & Halsin (51), Wyll & Minthara (52) and Karlach & Astarion (52). When push comes to shove, not many people in the party agree with the two most sociopathic characters.

As for raw numbers (rather than percentages), Baldur’s Gate 3’s official best friends are Wyll & Karlach who agree a total of 1,563 different times. For contrast, Baldur’s Gate 3’s worst friends is a tie between Jaheira & Minthara, and Minsc & Minthara. Both of these pairs only agree a paltry 341 times throughout the game.

It’s clear from the data that Larian wrote characters’ reactions based on moral alignment, albeit with some nuanced opinions here and there.
