This article contains spoilers for One Piece’s Final Saga.

Summary

  • Sanji’s pursuit of love in One Piece has been met with constant rejection.
  • Sanji’s closest chance at love was with Pudding on Whole Cake Island.
  • Fans speculate on a potential romantic reunion between Sanji and Pudding in the final saga.

Although love is a topic that isn’t discussed all too often in the story of One Piece, one character seems to talk about love more than any other. Being a bit of a hopeless romantic, Sanji frequently pines after almost every woman that’s been in the series. In fact, his love and respect for women, and his constant pursuit of romantic partners are deeply ingrained in his character, since his first introduction to the story of One Piece.

However, so far, Sanji has been constantly rejected by almost every woman in One Piece. Whether due to his slightly aggressive approach to courtship or his obsession with beauty, it seems that Sanji may not find the love that he dreams about. By the end of the series, Sanji may not have the dream relationship that many fans and shippers hope he will have.

Pudding And Sanji Shared A Genuine Connection During This Arc

Since the beginning of One Piece, the chef of the Straw Hat Crew, Sanji, has always had an extreme interest in women. Bordering on an obsession, Sanji constantly pursues women, trying his best to impress them with acts of chivalry. Despite his attempts, his obsession often gets in the way, making him constantly embarrass himself in front of the people he is trying to impress.

I will never kick a woman, even if I die. – Sanji

Despite his blunders in the past, Sanji’s closest chance came during One Piece’s Whole Cake Island Arc with Big Mom’s Daughter, Charlotte Pudding. During this arc, although Pudding plans to deceive Sanji at first, starts to fall for the chef after he displays a genuine love for her, despite her looks and evil intentions. Although their connection ended in a bittersweet way, with Pudding using her Memo-Memo Devil Fruit to erase a kiss shared between the couple, the whole encounter was Sanji’s biggest chance so far.

Plus, although she may have started as a villain, with more time spent with the Straw Hats, Pudding may fully join the side of the heroes.

One Piece: A Fan Perfectly Captures The Complexities Of Vegapunk

While many characters may seem simple on the surface, one fan perfectly dissects Vegapunk’s character in One Piece.

This is especially the case for Pudding’s position in the current story of One Piece. Earlier, during the Egghead Island Arc of One Piece, Pudding was captured by the Blackbeard Pirates and taken as a prisoner for her ability to read the Poneglyphs. If Sanji were to save Pudding from the nefarious pirates, it might present the perfect opportunity to cement the relationship between the two characters. In this specific instance, Sanji would easily be able to find true love before the end of the series.

One Piece Has Very little Time For Love

However, outside of this, as the story currently stands, Sanji will most likely not find love before the end of One Piece. Being a story more focused on action and world-building, One Piece has very little time to deal with romantic subplots. This is especially true in the Final Saga, where so many events need to happen with so little time left overall.

Mellorine! Mellorine! – A Phrase Sanji Says Around Robin And Nami

Plus, being alone at the end of the Final Saga of One Piece may be the best move for Sanji’s character as well. Due to his extreme love of all women, if Sanji were to stay single, he could continue to help and appreciate everyone indiscriminately. If Sanji were to end up settling down, he most likely wouldn’t be able to continue his chivalrous, and often misguided, pursuits.

In the end, whether Sanji ends up in love or stays single by the finale of One Piece is still up in the air. However, the character is sure to have a fulfilling ending, whether it involves falling in love or not. Though if he does end up with Pudding in the end, their reunion is bound to be one of the sweetest moments in the entirety of One Piece.
