What to Expect From Elden Ring: Nightreign in 2025

2025 is set to be an exciting year for Elden Ring fans as FromSoftware is set to release Elden Ring: Nightreign sometime later in the year. Elden Ring: Nightreign was revealed at the 2024 Game Awards, and is intended to be played either alone or cooperatively in groups of three.

Elden Ring: Nightreign is a completely different experience from FromSoftware, but promises to work well within the multiplayer landscape. 2025 will be a big year for the game as it ramps up with stress tests towards its launch, which may be towards the end of the first quarter of the year, based on FromSoftware’s previous releases.

Elden Ring: Nightreign’s Upcoming Network Test

FromSoftware Gears Up For a 2025 Elden Ring Launch

Although Nightreign will be released later in 2025, there will be beta tests throughout the year to stress test the system. Players can sign up to participate in these tests by heading to FromSoftware’s site and entering their details there, where they may be chosen to participate. The first network test will take place sometime in February 2025, and sign-ups will open on January 10.

It’s likely that the first network test will have a smaller intake pool, while subsequent tests will take more players. Participants will be able to play sections of the game in order to stress test Nightreign‘s servers to prepare for the official launch. Unfortunately, it appears as though the first test isn’t open for PC players, but this may change for future beta tests when FromSoftware is ready to stress test its PC servers.

Elden Ring Nightreign Makes Classic Feature More Useful

Elden Ring Nightreign confirms that a classic Souls feature now has major benefits for players, providing a big reason to utilize it.

Elden Ring Nightreign’s Survival Component Promises to Tread New Ground For the Series

Players will be able to select a character to play, and then, they’ll then need to survive three nights in The Lands Between either solo or with two friends. Players will have the day-cycle to level up and prepare for the night, when the area will shrink and one of eight bosses will spawn. Unfortunately, cross-play won’t be available.

Returning Mobs and Old Faces

Elden Ring: Nightreign isn’t a full sequel, and is rather a spin-off that runs parallel to the original game. Assets from Elden Ring seem to reappear in Nightreign, which is to be expected with this type of game. The Game Awards trailer included a variety of enemies from both Elden Ring and Dark Souls, which veteran players will recognize. Some of the iconic returning enemies from Dark Souls include:

Dark Souls bosses and enemies aren’t the only returning enemies. Some familiar faces from Elden Ring will make another appearance in Nightreign, including:

  • Exile Soldiers
  • Soldiers of Godrick
  • Banished Knights
  • Knights of Zamor
  • Omens

Possible Release Windows for Nightreign

Elden Ring Nightreign may be released earlier in the year than some might think, especially if it’s already ready for stress tests. Previous FromSoftware releases follow a distinct pattern:

  • Dark Souls: September 22
  • Dark Souls 2: March 11
  • Dark Souls 3: April 12
  • Elden Ring: February 25

FromSoftware games commonly release in the first quarter of the year. If FromSoftware keeps this pattern, Elden Ring: Nightreign‘s release date may be around the corner. As the first stress test will be in February, it’s unlikely to be released then, but anytime from late March or April could be a possibility. If not, or if the game needs work after the beta tests, a September release would stand to reason too.
