Vouchers are powerful, persistent buffs you can gain during your runs in Balatro. Purchased from the shop between Blinds, Vouchers have a variety of different effects, like making it easier to build your deck or find better Jokers, which can greatly increase your chances of winning your run.
There are a total of 32 different Vouchers in the game, divided into 16 pairs of two. While all Vouchers provide valuable buffs, some are more prominent than others. Below, we’ll take a look at a few of the absolute best Vouchers to look out for during your runs in Balatro.
Updated December 22, 2024: We’ve updated this list to include a few more of the strongest Vouchers to keep an eye out for during your next run in Balatro.
10
Retcon
Voucher Effect |
Reroll the Boss Blind unlimited times, $10 per roll. |
---|
Retcon is an extremely powerful Voucher with the ability to reroll the upcoming Boss Blind. Even with a strong deck and Jokers, sometimes the Boss Blind can completely counter you. For example, if you’re running a deck based around playing Hearts, and the Boss Blind is The Head, which debuffs all Heart cards, you’re pretty much done for.
However, with Retcon, or its normal version, Director’s Cut, you’ll be able to spend a bit of money to reroll the Boss Blind, essentially ensuring you are able to continue. If you get lucky, you won’t ever have to use Retcon, but when it saves your run, you’ll be grateful you picked it up.
9
Overstock/Overstock Plus
Voucher Effect |
+1 card slot in the shop, up to 3/4 slots. |
---|
The Overstock and Overstock Plus Vouchers each give you an additional card slot in the shop, which expands your ability to construct your deck with each visit to the shop. With more card slots in the shop, you have better overall chances to get Rare Jokers, or Jokers more fitting for your current deck.
Because your goal in every run of Balatro is to build a strong deck, Overstock works with every deck, and is almost always worth picking up. Plus, when you buy Overstock or Overstock Plus, the shop is automatically refreshed to fill in the new card slots, and any other cards you may have purchased before buying the Voucher.
8
Antimatter
Voucher Effect |
+1 Joker slot. |
---|
Jokers are essential for upgrading your combos and improving your deck, and Antimatter lets you have one more Joker than normal. This can enable better synergies with your current cards and Jokers, and overall make your deck stronger.
The only downside to Antimatter is that you have to first pick up the Blank Voucher, which has no effect whatsoever. Still, this is a small price to pay for an effect as strong as this one.
7
Wasteful/Recyclomancy
Voucher Effect |
Permanently gain +1 discard per round. |
---|
Discards are pretty much universally good to have, no matter what style of deck you’re playing. They let you fish for your stronger hands, remove rebuffed cards from your hand, and improve your hand on your next turn. The Wasteful and Recyclomancy Vouchers have the simple but very effective ability to grant you one more discard per round.
Wasteful and Recyclomancy work very well with the Green Deck, earning you more money per round with unused discards.
Some decks may not get the most use out of this, like decks designed around playing multiple, weaker hands, or decks that are filled with cards of the same number and suit. However, in all other cases, having more discards is never a bad thing, and makes picking up either of these Vouchers a no-brainer.
6
Glow Up
Voucher Effect |
Foil, Holographic, and Polychrome cards appear 2x more often. |
---|
The Foil, Holographic, and Polychrome editions of cards are some of the best ways to increase your ability to score Chips. With the Glow Up Voucher, cards with these effects will appear four times more often, allowing you to create an even stronger deck earlier in a run.
The Polychrome effect in particular is great for increasing your Chip gain, applying a 1.5x Mult. The Glow Up Voucher is good no matter what deck type you’re playing, making it an easy pick up if you see it in the shop (as long as you’ve purchased Hone first, that is).
5
Grabber/Nacho Tong
Voucher Effect |
Permanently gain +1 hand per round. |
---|
The Grabber and Nacho Tong Vouchers are solid, consistent Vouchers with no downsides, making them an easy pick almost every time. Both of these Vouchers give you an additional hand to play each round, which not only helps you score more chips, but can also provide a small boost to your money with each unused hand.
There’s no real reason not to pick up Grabber or Nacho Tong, unless you absolutely can’t spare the ten dollars. Even if you don’t end up using the extra hand that Grabber provides, this Voucher will pay for itself after just ten rounds thanks to the bonus for unused hands, and after that, you will profit from it.
4
Omen Globe
Voucher Effect |
Spectral cards may appear in Arcana Booster Packs. |
---|
Spectral cards have the potential to greatly alter your cards, often providing strong effects with interesting downsides. The Omen Globe Voucher gives you a chance to find Spectral Cards when opening Arcana Booster Packs, which usually only contain Tarot cards.
With this Voucher, there’s a chance you may even find The Soul Spectral card, which gives you a random Legendary Joker. These Jokers have unique and powerful effects that drastically increase your chances of winning, like Chicot which completely disables Boss Blind effects, or Yorick, which grants x5 Mult after discarding 23 times.
3
Telescope
Voucher Effect |
Celestial Packs always contain the Planet card for your most played poker hand this run. |
---|
Telescope is a very solid Voucher that is easy to recommend for any deck that plays one type of hand. With Telescope, any time you purchase a Celestial pack, the Planet card of the hand you’ve played most will always appear. This lets you quickly stack up levels on your strongest hand type, further increasing the Chips you score when playing it.
However, if your deck isn’t centered around a single hand type, Telescope may be harder to use. It’s great if you can spare the $10, but you’ll want to first be sure that it will be beneficial for the type of deck you’re currently playing.
2
Seed Money/Money Tree
Voucher Effect |
Raise the cap on interest earned per round to $10/$20. |
---|
Seed Money and Money Tree are two great Vouchers that quickly give a return on your investment. Normally, you’ll gain one additional dollar for every $5 you have stored at the end of a round. With Seed Money, this cap increases to $10, and Money Tree further increases it to $20.
This means you’ll be gaining tons of additional money according to how much money you have saved up, letting you snowball into tons of cash later in a run. This can make fleshing out your deck with playing cards or Tarot cards easier, or let you refresh the shop more for the perfect Joker.
1
Paint Brush/Palette
Voucher Effect |
+1 hand size. |
---|
Paint Brush and Palette are two of the strongest Vouchers in Balatro, despite having one of the simplest effects. Both of these Vouchers increase your hand size by one, allowing you to draw an additional card each turn. With both Paint Brush and Palette, this means you can hold at least 12 cards at once.
This greatly increases your ability to play the types of hands you want to play, leading to overall more consistent plays each turn and better performance in each round. There are very few cases where having an increased hand size wouldn’t benefit you, making both of these Vouchers safe picks if you see them.
