Stranger Things is a hit sci-fi horror series on Netflix from the Duffer Brothers. It premiered in 2016 and will air its fifth and final season in 2025. Although it only has five seasons, the production took nearly 10 years to complete the series. There was a three-year gap between Season 3 and Season 4, which premiered in 2019 and 2022. Stranger Things Season 5 was supposed to start production in 2023, but the schedule was pushed back due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Hence, it has been over two years of waiting for the fifth season. Ted Sarandos, the Netflix CEO, shared his thoughts about the final season.

Sarandos has been giving updates about the beloved series Stranger Things. Just recently, he shared another update about the beloved series that would soon end. According to him, the final season of Stranger Things “Is so good,” Stranger Things Update shared the CEO’s word on X, formerly Twitter. “It leans into the very emotional connection people have. Remember, we grew up with these kids, so to see this cast it’s an incredibly emotional experience.” Sarandos is probably right about the show being emotional as it hits its final season. Fans have witnessed the stars’ development from their childhood to adulthood. One of its stars, Millie Bobby Brown, who plays the fan-favorite character Eleven is even already married before the release of the final season. Brown previously said it “feels very weird” as she reflected on her history in the show. She was only 10 when they started filming and was already turning 20 when they filmed Stranger Things Season 5.
During the company’s Q2 2024 Earnings Interview, Sarandos announced that Stranger Things Season 5 would premiere in 2025. “Looking forward through 2025, you’ve got new seasons of Wednesday, Stranger Things, and The Night Agent. And, we’re in production on One Piece, so there’s a ton of excitement there just in our series,” he previously shared. However, it remains unclear when exactly in 2025, the final season will hit the streamer.
In July, Stranger Things dropped a teaser for the upcoming season. Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers on the show, teased that Season 5 would be “the best.” The promo also included a throwback video of the cast members when they were still kids riding their bikes. The sight struck a chord as it indicated how long the series had run and how the young stars had grown up into fine adults.
There’s no doubt that the series took very long to finish, considering it only has five seasons. Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas, even poked fun at the long wait for the final season. He shared a snap of him with his co-stars Sadie Sink (May Mayfield) and Maya Hawkeye (Robin Buckley) on X and edited it to make them look significantly older. “Sneak peek of Season 5” he wrote in the caption with eyes emoji, joking that they would grow old waiting for Stranger Things Season 5. “One heck of a time jump,” one fan agreed.
Stranger Things Season 5 will premiere on Netflix in 2025.
