So, your Sim has recently turned into a vampire in The Sims 4. When a Sim becomes a vampire, they undergo some important changes, including no longer needing normal food. If this is your first time dealing with a vampire Sim, you’ve come to the right place.

In this guide, we are going to take a look at how to manage your vampire Sim’s needs in The Sims 4. This will include how they are differnt from the typical Sim, as well as how you can satisfy the needs. Remember, in order to get a vampire Sim, you’ll need the Vampires game pack.
How Are Vampire Sims Different?
A vampire Sim has a few traits in common with the typical human, but there are a few main differences. Firstly, your vampire will no longer use the bathroom! Toilets aren’t used by vampires, so you don’t have to worry about adding one to a vampire house.
In addition to this, vampires don’t have the same Energy or Hunger bar. Instead, Hunger has been replaced by Thirst, and Energy has been replaced by Vampire Energy.
The Vampire Energy meter is at the very top of the screen, taking up the entire section in a deep purple color. As such, it’s safe to say that this is one of the most important needs.
Vampires still have needs for Hygiene, Social, and Fun!
What Drains Vampire Energy?
Vampire Energy is the source of your vampire’s powers. This will very slowly drain, but for the most part, you’ll consume this energy when using a Vampire Power. This includes things like detecting personalities, turning into a bat, or charming others.
The other major thing that drains Vampire Energy is being in the sun. This, of course, is bad. Vampires will start to burn when exposed to the sun; when outside too long, they will lose energy and if left outside too long, they will eventually die.
How Do Vampires Sleep?
Vampire Energy is restored by either sleeping or meditating. Rather than sleeping in a bed though, vampire Sims will need to sleep in a coffin. In Build/Buy mode, you’ll be able to find a few coffin types to choose from. This functions like a bed for your Sim; your Sims can even Woohoo in one.
If you need a quick burst of Vampire Energy, your vampire Sim can also use the Dark Meditation ability. This will cause them to meditate for a little bit, which restores a little energy. This isn’t the best way to completely fill your vampire Sims energy bar, but it works in a pinch.
How To Fulfill Vampire Thirst
In order to fulfill Thirst, vampires will need to drink Plasma. This can be found from three different sources; Plasma Fruit, Plasma Packs, and normal human Sims. One of these is a little more evil than the rest, but let’s go over all three.
Drinking From Plasma Packs
Plasma Packs are essentially little artificial blood packs that a Sim can drink from to avoid drinking from humans. These packs can be purchased from a computer if your Sim is at least level three in the Vampire Lore skill.
Vampires can make their own Plasma Packs from either fish or frogs once Vampire Lore level four is reached.
Drinking From Plasma Fruit
Plasma Fruit is the best way to restore Thirst if your vampire Sim has a green thumb. Vampires can drink the plasma directly from these fruits, which satisfies just a bit of Thirst. Just one won’t get the job done but fortunately, Sims can drink multiple in a row to fulfill their Thirst.
You can find a Plasma Fruit tree in the Forgotten Hollow; the tree grows on a slope that leads up to a dead tree. This tree is public, so you can simply go to it and harvest the fruits.
At level eight in the Vampire Lore skill, you can purchase Plasma Fruit seeds to plant yourself. This is great if your Sim doesn’t live in Forgotten Hollow, or if you just want more trees.
Drinking From Normal Sims
Lastly, your vampire Sim can drink from normal humans. There are a few different ways to do this. Firstly, you can ask nicely! If your vampire has a good relationship with the other normal Sim, then they may be able to politely ask for a drink.
If there is no relationship between the Sim and your vampire, then they can also compel the Sim to give them plasma. You can do this by drinking either a small or large amount of plasma. Drinking a large amount of plasma from another Sim is a great way to replenish Thirst.
What Happens If A Sim Is Too Thirsty?
This isn’t ideal; if a Sim is too thirsty, their instincts will take over. When this happens, vampire Sims will become harder to control. They may randomly attack Sims and drain their plasma when this happens. If you’re going for an evil vampire vibe, this should be fine, but it can ruin relationships.
While the Vampire Energy bar is visually bigger, the Thirst need is quite important. Thirst seems to control vampires; when it gets too low, all other needs will essentially be overridden. Low thirst can provide the following three moodlets.
- Need to Feed
- Parched
- Irresistible Thirst
When Irresistible Thirst is reached, they will start attacking.
