Girls’ Frontline 2: Exilium is a strategy RPG from MICA Team. The game was officially launched for Mobile and PC in China last year and recently launched globally. This Girls Frontline 2 Exilium combat guide will break down the combat system of the gameplay as you progress further into the game.

Girls’ Frontline 2: Exilium introduces a unique turn-based tactical combat system that diverges significantly from traditional games. One key feature is the absence of a “hit chance” mechanic where all attacks are guaranteed to hit. Girls’ Frontline 2: Exilium plays similarly to traditional XCOM-Lites with the addition of RPG-like mechanics.

Breaking down the in-game Combat System

Units positioned next to Half-Body or Full-Body Cover benefit from a 30% damage reduction, with Half-Body Cover allowing full attack capabilities and Full-Body Cover limiting line-of-sight and attack range. Units attacking from Full-Body Cover can perform a “Leaning Attack,” which requires adjacent tiles to be unobstructed.

Special types of Cover, such as Iron Fence and Energy Cover, further diversify the tactical options. Iron Fence blocks movement and melee attacks but remains vulnerable to ranged attacks, while Energy Cover prevents ranged attacks but not movement or melee. Additionally, Destructible Covers can be removed through specific skills, creating opportunities to dismantle an enemy’s defensive advantage.

Stability Index System

The system also introduces a Stability Index mechanic, providing an additional 60% damage reduction when units are next to Cover. This bonus diminishes as the Stability Index depletes from incoming attacks, leading to Stability Collapse, at which point the additional damage reduction is lost.

Units can recover the Stability Index through certain abilities, but melee units and specific AoE attacks bypass these protections entirely. Attacks from High Ground also ignore Stability Index and Cover protections, allowing units to deal full damage, though targeting restrictions apply unless positioned on Perforated High Ground.

Action Support and Surveillance

The traditional Overwatch mechanic is replaced by a new feature called “Action Support.” This buff enables a unit to assist allies during attacks or counterattack enemies when an allied unit takes damage, provided the assisting unit is within range. Another notable mechanic is “Surveillance,” an enemy skill that triggers attacks based on specific conditions.

Movement Surveillance activates when a controlled unit moves within a designated area, while Action Surveillance triggers when a controlled unit acts within the monitored zone. These mechanics demand careful planning to avoid triggering enemy countermeasures.

Combat Phases

Each Combat Sequence is divided into turns. Each turn consists of a Movement Phase and an Action Phase. During the Movement Phase, units may move a certain amount of tiles depending on their Action Points. All T-Dolls have their Action Points that determine how many tiles they can move in any direction every Movement Phase.

While movement can only be done once per turn, certain skills can grant an “Additional Movement” buff, which allows movement once more at the cost of not being able to conduct any other action. During the Action Phase, combat is conducted by a T-Doll utilizing various skills to deal damage. Every Skill comes with its range and AoE, as well as its own Stability Damage dealt.

As Girls’ Frontline 2 Exilium is skill-based combat rather than the traditional XCOM-Lites’ weapon-based combat, T-Dolls don’t need to reload their weapons at all. As such, ammunition and reload mechanics are not featured in Girls’ Frontline 2: Exilium.

Elements and Weapon Damage Attributes

Additionally, each T-Doll has a corresponding Phase Element and each weapon they wield has a Weapon Damage Attribute. There are 5 Phase Elements: Burn, Electric, Hydro, Freeze, and Corrosion. Weapon Damage Attributes are also divided into 5 categories: Light Ammo, Medium Ammo, Heavy Ammo, Melee, and Shotgun Ammo.

Both T-Dolls and enemies have Weapon Damage Attribute weakness and Phase Element weakness. When exploiting Phase Attributes and/or Weapon Damage Attributes, the damage is increased by 10% and an extra 2 fixed Stability Damage is dealt. Stability Damage will determine the outcome of the total damage, as Stability Damage Reduction may be negated if the unit enters Stability Collapse.

Aside from basic skills, T-Dolls have an “Ultimate Skill” using the “Confectance Index.” The Confectance Index will be shown above the unit’s blue HP bar and will increase based on damage dealt and effects from unit skills. Similar to the Movement Phase, the Action Phase can also be re-initiated through an “Additional Action” buff granted by skills. Additional Action will provide another action to be conducted but prohibits any movement.

Rewind Feature

At any point during your turn phase, if the actions you performed last turn or this current turn do not suit you, or if you made a mistake, you may use the “Rewind” feature. Rewind allows you to turn back to a previous turn phase up to 3 times per battle. You may also use the Rewind feature when you have a lost battle by clicking on “Undo.”
