Genshin Impact’s roster of playable characters has grown significantly since the game’s initial launch in 2020. By now there are over 90 playable characters available, and this number only continues to grow with every new update for Genshin Impact. Surprisingly though, despite Genshin Impact having a wide variety of playable characters, there’s still one weapon and Element pairing that’s missing a dedicated character after all these years: a Hydro Claymore character.
Throughout recent updates for Genshin Impact, the absence of a Hydro Claymore character has naturally become a recurring topic of speculation among the community, given that it’s currently the only missing weapon and Element pairing missing from the game’s playable characters. While some fans remain hopeful that HoYoverse will introduce such a character that will fill in this void in many players’ team compositions, unfortunately, it doesn’t seem likely that such a character will be added to Genshin Impact anytime soon.

Wuthering Waves Would Beat HoYoverse to the Punch With One Mechanic if Rumors Are True
Wuthering Waves may beat Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse at its own game in one respect, if a recent rumor is to be believed.
At this point in Genshin Impact’s lifecycle, many players have likely grown accustomed to a Hydro Claymore character being the only remaining missing weapon and Element pairing by investing in other playable characters and team compositions that fill this missing character’s role by proxy. So, if such a character does get introduced, they will have some tough competition to live up to among other Hydro and Claymore characters, respectively.
While a Hydro Claymore character would fit well onto team compositions in Genshin Impact that specialize in Freeze Elemental Reactions since Hydro is one of the two elements required for this Reaction, and basic attacks from a Claymore can trigger Shatter on a Frozen enemy, dealing bonus damage. However, Freeze and Shatter teams are often considered off-meta because most boss-type enemies are immune to being Frozen. Consequently, such a character likely wouldn’t be viable for high-level endgame content like the Spiral Abyss and the Imaginarium Theater.
While Shatter was recently buffed in Genshin Impact’s 5.2 update, it’s still considered off-meta compared to other Elemental Reactions since it still doesn’t affect most boss-type enemies.
Ultimately, a Hydro Claymore character would be highly susceptible to power creep in Genshin Impact if they were introduced in the near future. Therefore, it’s arguably for the best that HoYoverse holds off on introducing such a character until they would be a better fit in a future meta.
Genshin Impact’s 2025 Character Leaks and Official Reveals Have a Glaring Omission
Leaks are extremely common in Genshin Impact’s community, and with this weapon and Element pairing being such an anomaly, fans can rest assured that the first sign of leaks for this character will be a popular topic among Genshin Impact’s community platforms and news outlets. Consequently, aside from how a Hydro Claymore character arguably wouldn’t be a good fit in Genshin Impact’s current meta, the current lack of leaks and official reveals surrounding a Hydro Claymore character doesn’t bode well for their potential release any time soon, especially considering that HoYoverse just recently revealed several of the upcoming characters that will be introduced throughout 2025 already.
In Genshin Impact’s 5.3 Special Program, HoYoverse surprised fans by announcing seven new characters coming to Genshin Impact throughout 2025. Based on what’s known about these characters so far, unfortunately, none of them are believed to be a Hydro Claymore character. With this being such a big reveal, this could have been a golden opportunity to finally announce Genshin Impact’s first Hydro Claymore character. However, finally filling this missing character role doesn’t seem to be a priority for HoYoverse, suggesting that the wait for this fabled character will likely continue to endure.
